***The Official Wolfdale 8200/8400/8500 Overclocking Thread ***

Sensors are fine on this one :) Previous one was definitely faulty.

Small FTT stable at 4.1Ghz atm.

Quick question - I'm aware that 1.4V should really be seen as the maximum safe voltage for these chips on air, but does this mean 1.4V actual (as in what CPU-Z reports) or 1.4V in BIOS?

So we're talking 1.45 actual, as opposed to 1.45 in BIOS?

The vdroop on my mobo seems kinda bad (1.4V in BIOS, 1.344V CPU-Z)

1.45V max in CPU-Z, yea?

To me 1.45V means actual in Windows.

I did Vdrop/Vdroop Pencil Mod on my Striker Extreme and the Striker II Formula I tried (got rid of after 2 weeks as its a POS) had LLC so it was constant.

The killer is VTT and that's FSB Termination Voltage to you if your on an Intel Chipset Mobo. ;)

Cool, cheers man.

Edit: My mobo doesn't allow anywhere near 1.45 VTT, I think the max was 1.32. I think it was currently set at what I think was 1.2V. Can I safely bump this up?

Couldn't resist anymore and just bought a Xeon E3110 (E8400), hope it will overclock well! :D should have it tomorrow or the day after, will post results.

Thanks! Hope I didn't buy something I will regret, never had a Xeon before but as this should be a rebadged E8400 there shouldn't be any problems right :P

BTW gurusan, what made you change to a E8400, the cpu you got there clocks better then the E3110 you had?

I've settled on 4.24 on my e8500 for 24/7 use now, set to 1.42 in bios :) happy with that so i wont bother messing with any other settings for now.

Recently installed a TRUE.

Fairly happy with this chip's clocking ability, definitely happy with temps.

I finally got round to pushing my chip a bit more & I've been pleasantly suprised with the results. My current BIOS settings are as follows, I'm wondering if the ICHIO is too high though considering the other values?

vCore - 1.335v
vDimm - 2.175v
VTT - 1.21v
MCH - 1.29v
ICH - 1.09V
ICHIO - 1.5v

I upped both the VTT & MCH voltages up a notch from my previous clock of 3.55GHz just to make sure that blend ran ok but whether or not this was needed I don't know.

just happened upon a better clocking CPU. now got a slightly better one and will be flogging the e8400 in a few days along with an E0 e8500 :)

I have gurusan's E8500 and its a dam good chip. Currently sat here happy at 4.365ghz with 1.4v in the BIOs on a Abit ip35 PRO cooled using my Titan Amanda - temps 55-56 under load using Orthos. Waiting for my new watercooled PC to arrive. :)

My custom build watercooled case arrived today and so whacked all the components in. Managed to destroy my PSU when preparing to leak test it. Always remeber to put the paperclip in holes 4+5, not 4+9! Anyway, managed to get hold of a Thermaltake 700w...

Been playing this evening and was priming at 4503ghz for over an hour with 1.45v in Windows. Temps were at 48-50 when I decided to accidently launch OCCT. BSOD! LOL

To me, over an hour Priming is stable. I know everyone says "gotta be 8 hours max" but I'll never use both cores maxed out on this processor for "8 hours" so to me, this is dead stable at 4.5ghz.

Gurusan - cheers mate for the processor! :)

very well done!! wtf! I couldnt get it to do 4.5 at 1.45v! :/ Wonder what I am doing wrong? I thought I was quite good at clocking the wolfies!

Do you mind posting up your settings?

I have 2 more of these, exact same batch codes...would love to keep one if I can get 4.5ghz!
