** The Official WWDC 2009 Thread **

LOL at these iPhones costing more than a laptop or in some cases, desktop pc.

exactly thank you. and i dont think its apple fault. i think o2 are to blame. because if you look at at&t prices. they seem more sane

i bet it would probably be cheaper to take out the contract in america. pay a flat rate contract charge and get a simplicity deal here.. and it would probably work out cheaper

The 3G added:

- 3G
- GPS
- Double Capacity

The 3GS adds

- HSDPA
- Better Camera
- Compass
- Speed Increase
- Double Capacity

They seem fairly similar scale upgrades to me

Introduction of 3G easily outweighs all of those... Edge was just so slow... These updates wont make the phone considerably better like it did..
Also considering pricing and o2 upgrade option, not a doubt...

Edit: introduction of OS 3.0 will generally be good though :)

Yes. In something like an iPod the call for a removable battery is minimal at best. For a phone or laptop it could cause massive pains.

I suppose you have to ask yourself if that extra battery life is worth selling more of your soul to Apple.
The battery is removable. it's just designed to last the lifespan of the MBP without needing to be removed.

Apple will happily swap it out if the need arises.

But the speed increase is less significant to useability and being a 'net tool' thats fundamental. The increase to 3G made the phone useable the increase to HSDPA is a luxury :)

Strikes me this is a facelift, I suspect we will see a lot of the changes which have been mooted just not this time around.

As I don't have an iphone and I want one I'll buy a 3GS when my contract is up, but I don't see improvements which would persuade me to buy out of a contract early, I'd wait it out maybe even till this time next year.

You're welcome. Not sure what I did wrong though, you asked a question and I answered quickly and accurately. *shrug*

I'm sure your well aware what I mean. I didn't even bother leaving this thread as I was interested in the topic(s) being discussed yet you still chose to give me a smart reply.

Yes, but:

1. You have to pay them for the battery AND to fit it.
2. You will be without your laptop for however many hours/days/weeks.
3. If you live far away from an Apple Store, it's a mission.

I don't like a company defining a products lifespan to me. I shall use it for however long I so choose.

It's incredibly useful when using turn by turn navigation though. And also, I was doing some aerial work last week and needed a compass, I ended up using one out of my boy's Scooby Doo kit!

Can see it being a very useful tool, couple it with Google Streetview and you could feasibly overlay information over the top of 'the real world' moving the iphone like a lens over the landscape to reveal details or information!

Am thinking the best option now.. (upgradeable in Jan)
Sell 3G, Buy 16gb 3GS, In January upgrade and sell the brand new one, as new. Should pay for this hassle...

That wont happen for a while though, but would be cool. :p
