** The Official WWDC 2011 Thread **

The thing is, the only reason I will jailbreak now is to get the teathering crack, everything else has been fixed by iOS 5.

It will be interesting to see if anything else gets added to iOS 5 by the time it's released in September. I guess that's when the new iPhone will be out also, and I'm sure the new iPhone will need software to support it's new features.

Don't count on a new iPhone this year - I seriously don't think we can expect to see one until early next year...

so should i get an iphone 4 now then? or is it still a good idea to wait?

I'm in the same boat. I have a feeling they'll want to tap into the Christmas market; iOS 5 comes out late August/September, new iPhone announced for December? Can't see them not updating the hardware till June 2012! As my 3GS is getting all the iOS 5 goodies, I'll probably move onto a rolling 1 month Simplicity plan, then I can update as soon as the new one comes out.

Whats the tethering crack? My iPhone works as a Wifi point out of the box already - though it was a SIM-free one and Im on an Android data plan ;)...

ps3ud0

Ya reckon? I can't see them putting out the iPad 3 (spring) right after an iPhone update. We know that things like the 64GB flash chips are going into mass production now.

The iPod event in September last year had to throw in Apple TV and the new iTunes to flesh it out. I could easily see them unveiling the next iPhone then, as iPod Touches are basically 'iPhone Lite' anyway, rather than a stand out device in their own right.

Another thing, in iOS 5 you have this:
attachment.php

Currently none of the iPhones have a status light for notifications, like Blackberry's for instance...

I think all the iOS5 features alone is worth the upgrade from a 3GS if you require these feature. I am so happy they added what they added.

I think the next hardware gen phones wil be out with iOS6 and tey will stay witht he iPhone 4 / iOS5 for now while they develop the next generation wow factors. iPad 3 / iPhone 5?

Apparently that LED flash uses the actual flash of the camera. However that's kinda pointless since most people leave the phone face up so you couldn't see it. Hmm.

Yeah my 3GS gets a new lease of life. I want a retina display though, but sod's law says if I get an iPhone 4 then the next one will come out shortly after.

I'll most likely still JB mine, as SBSSettings is something I know i'll horribly miss.

Come to think of it, status bar icons e.g silent mode, notification, sms text icons are something I've had for ages and I don't believe iOS5 screens had any of that. Stimpy (author of LockInfo) who was at WWDC tweeted that he now had to step up his game on his brilliant app as a result of iOS5.

What?! That would be plain stupid.

What other LED is there on the iPhone to use? Of course it would be the flash...

It probably wont be an option on the older models, I'd imagine it will be iPhone 5 only. It'll be a fairly useless feature otherwise unless you want to keep your phone face down all the time :o
