*** The Official X1950 Pro Thread ***

just bought the HIS 512mb card (and a Tuniq cooler for the new CPU) on the this week only deals.
even though i dont have the rest of the PC to go with it yet and i'll need to pay for delivery again it still worked out a few pennies cheaper than waiting a few weeks till i can buy everything at the same time.

<cue massive price drops just to spite me :p>

9800 Pro to X1950 Pro

Upgrade of the Year!!!! :D

I just made that jump too. On the 9800Pro Doom3 autodetect gave me 1024x768 Low Quality. On the X1950Pro Prey autodetect gave me 1024x768 High Quality. :)

The 9800Pro is still a good card for what it is. Its performace on Need For Speed MW was surprisingly good.

Now ive tried OBLIVION

at the begining i had 15 fps outside i get around 60 fps

still silky smooth on default draw level, 1024x768

going to work now, but i noticed my DDR was not running @ 200 MHz
also
CPU-Z is saying that my memory is in Single mode!

so will sort them 2 and report back if any different (i hope so!)

Despite a couple of crashes when I first got the card, the card is super stable, and I have started dabbling in overclocking.

Currently, Im at 655/1566 which is a fair bit of a jump on standard clock, and Ive got a 3dMark06 score of 5716 (SM 2.0 - 2105; SM 3.0 - 2330; CPU - 2774). I think these scores are pretty impressive and I still feel there is more headroom.

One thing I did notice (as mentioned by others) - overclocking has to be done at driver level (on ATI Tray Tools)

So far so good! :)

The nmissing items that someone posted was NOT the HIS card, so far the HIS cards have been all complete
Oh the plot thickens!

Just installed a 512MB HIS X1950 Pro for a mate, his box was sealed, undid it myself and was suprised to see hardly any accessories? Also as Beast informed me the 'venting' plate is now 'all-in-one' (one piece).

Strange, I had two 256MB HIS cards last week and they had the 'full' bundle and were a two piece design. Anyway the card works perfectly and is very quiet again!

I updated the picture of the HIS package above . . . .

[edit] also I noticed the 512MB versions are clocked at 620MHz/GPU (256MB versions were 635MHz/GPU), although its always said 620MHz on the box.

hey guys

i got my HIS x1950 pro 256mb today with all my other stuff.

my vent plate is seperate and i had all the accessories too- nothing missing

but after about ten minutes it started to rattle!! im totally gutted :( I'll phone ocuk tomorrow and find out if i can return it for a powecolor

oh no! that's a pain in the rass. That makes two of us so far that recieved a HIS card with a 'debatable' silent cooling solution? My second HIS card has a perfect fan attached, and so does my mates 512MB HIS card, there must be a few 'rattlers' floating about.

If I had just the one HIS card and it had made that sound I would have assumed it was the same for all cards and RMA'ed it for another brand but luckily I had a second one to test and as mentioned it meets my fussy expectations (in every review on the HIS card they 'praise' the ICEQ-3 cooler saying how quiet it is so . . .).

On top of that it seems that HIS have now changed their 'bundle' and made the vent-slot an all-in-one piece (IMO the seperate plate is better, its easier to install the card in the case when its two seperate pieces).

If I was reading all of this I would be a bit worried about buying a HIS X1950, although as far I as I know they have all worked well, just that so far two people have had a rattly fan and now you can't be sure what accessories your gonna get?

So I'm sat here with a HIS card, works well, quiet, and has all the bit'n'pieces in the box . . . go figure?

yeah , i dont know whether to change to a powercolor or just get another HIS and hope its will be ok :/

it looked really impressive and i like the higher clocks and the way it vents warm air outside the case.

but i just dont want to risk another duff one so i have requested a powercolor in my RMA form

now my new uber PC is sitting switched off doing nothing :(

The Power-Colour is a stonking card, hopefully it will fit in your case! (if you got a normal sized tower it will be fine).

It's not quite as fast as the HIS but the one I tried was very quiet, not sure what I think of the BTX design yet, where the GPU-Cooler blows the exhaust air straight down at the mobo, but in the [HTPC] builds I was doing the HIS was preferable to exhaust the hot air from the small system, again if you got a decent case with cooling then this BTX cooling design shouldn't be an issue.

Naughty HIS!

why dont u ask them to open a HIS and check it before they send it you?

Hey one thing I just noticed, the HIS card that I have that makes that sound, it has something different to the others. There is a white power cable going from the graphics card PCB to the underside of the fan, well on the two HIS cards I have that are silent, this white cable is short and pretty much cut to length correctly, however on the 'rattly' HIS the white power cable is about 2-3 inches too long and the excess has been folded behind the fan (underside).

Is the same for u Yeti?

I can't test it atm but I'm wondering if pulling the 'excess' out from behind the fan the rattle will go away?

Let me know?

thinking that maybe this is a sign of some cards being made better than others (bit sloppy not cutting the cable length correctly?, maybe the fan was 'slapped' on also?).

Got my HIS X1950 Pro today, gutted it wont run any 3d without crashing within 3 minutes

After spending all day fresh installs of XP all drivers etc, Finally worked out what is wrong the card It will only run 3d if the core is dropped back to 580 on the Gpu looks like its a duff core it is 620 by default.

Looks like its rma time.

thats odd wayne. i cant see the point of that!
I mean that either the 'excess' wire behind the fan is causing it to be off-balance and 'rattle' or just a sign that whoever was assembling the card wasn't doing a very good job and didn't mount the fan correctly? (I mean if he/she can't cut a cable to length neatly they probably weren;t paying attention kinda thing . . .

If I get some time I will take the ratter from its packaging (posting it in the morning rma) and pull out the excess to see if that effects the noise?

is the fan connected to other side of the board? or the same side?
they are all plugged in the same (under)side of the cooler, just that the two that work properly have the white (power) wire neatly cut to length . . .

As far as I know thats the first faulty HIS anyone has got? weird, all three I have tested (twox256MB, onex512MB) has worked great out the box, just one wasn't silent enough . . . hmmm

[edit] I bet when Proc reads this he will begin worrying!! ;)

Whats the rest of your spec Dutch? (any other machine u can test the card in?).

Havent got another machine such a head spin:

Spec is: Asus A8N32-Deluxe / Opty 180 / Tagan 480 PSU / X-FI / Sata HD / 2 X 512 Crucial Ballistix.

Have run the board and cpu at defaults tried all drivers with and without CCC Temps are fine even if I up the fan to full speed and keep the temps under load under 50 it will still fail at default speed on the GPU.

Scores quite well with the GPU at 580 but I purchased the HIS expecting to overclock Not underclock
