*** The Official X1950 Pro Thread ***

Unfortunately I just had to send my HIS 1950 back for a refund. Had that damn clicking fan noise that quite a few other people seemed to get. It's a real shame as it was a great performer.

Also quite costly for me as I had to remove the zalman northbridge cooler I had in order to fit the card in the 1st place + the cost of sending it back recorded delivery : /

I'll probably order the sapphire once my refund come through.

I had this problem with this card, last night I changed the temps at which the fans power kicks in. I lowered the temps and raised the speed of the fan...

I also have the "BlackSOD + audio loop". Could you please share how you did this. as I would love to keep this card as It impressed me a whole lot. I havent done RMA before and am a bit anxious. I do not have a lot of air coming out of the back of the card and it does run pretty quietly. I hope this will resolve it as others with their driver changes (which Ive done) etc.. havent worked.

would the agp version fit in my shuttle? and also, would it need a bigger psu than the 200w i have now? 250w-300w?

am i best doing this for a quick upgrade, then doing the whole system at christmas?

ATI Tray Tools -> Overclocking -> Fan Control

I've RMA'd mine, it's apparently been received and I'll be notified on return. It is a sick card when it works though eh?

elguwapo exactly what Machine said, he was the one that showed me.
Install ATI tools first. you then need to save it as profile so that it loads
up each time you restart windows. otherwise it defaults back to it default
settings.

Also I would suggest testing it with the side panel off, I dont think all the
cards are having the same cause for this problem.

No chance of it working with a 250-300w psu. Didnt work with my akasa 400w hence the upgrade to corsair 620w, bit overkill but it will defo work with it lol.

YEs im opretty sure the card would work fine!

Dont listen to the above post, i dont think he read your spec ;) , as the shuttle does have a really solid PSU with really good output, one of the most efficient out there! COnsidering a 300w shuttle is running an 8800gtx(yes it can fit in certain models) im sure u'd be fine :)

You may need to get a better psu but obviously no point getting the shuttle 250w if you can get the 300w! Certainly worth a try mate!

thanks for the reply. I have just read on another post i think about the ati tool. I forgot about that tool. I used to have a 6800GT so ditched that obviously. I will RMA this one, as Ive just tried now with the fan speed at 100% and tried to play BF2. OMG did I love the eye candy!!!!!! :D But damn after almost exactly 9 minutes there ya go BSOD!!! Also tried without the side panel. => nope...

Why should we be enduring this anyway? Hard earned cash. waited to receive the card ever so anxious and excited and to find out it cant handle its own heat. If I had money obviously would opt to upgrade to the pci platform and get an 8800GTX. This is the fate of those who struggle with a budget, I guess.

Also a lot of confusion is going about because of what HIS recommended of having 30Amps to run the card when it means 30 Amps for the whole system. Some 600+W PSU's dont even have 30A/rail. And when it says recommended shouldnt it mean it'll work though not as well, but I dont think it should mean: It will work only for 5 minutes then crash!

I've used the ATI tool and had clocked down the GPU to 600+/- instead of the stock 620+/- And also upped the fan to 100%.It is working extremely well, And I was playing CSS and DODs without the BSOD. I suggest the same for most. But as much as I LOVE THIS CARD. I will have to do RMA, as I am not entirely happy to have paid for a card with a magnificent cooler(or is it?) And is supposedly pre-overclocked when it wont run properly "out-of-the-box" I am saddened by this and hope OcUK will pick up on this as theyre customers wont be too impressed by this seemingly pandemic BSOD of the HIS x1950pro.

I have also read that some similar issue is happening for the Saoohire card. though not as bad for this HIS. (makes me wonder if im to get that one instead or get another HIS512 and hope itll be good... Advise me on this chaps please).

Hmm didnt relise shuttles psu were any diff to normal psu for desktop cases. My mistake if they are then. Sry.

You are in the same boat i was, only came aware to the fact recently :) my mate runs an x800pe in his shuttle on a 200w psu fairly happily, the fact the 8800gtx can run in the 300w psu is a testament to how solid they are.

As i said though the 200w one is worth a shot at with the x1950pro, if it doesnt then the 250 or 300 would easily do the job.

It does seem like a significant amount of people are having problems with the HIS card but it's not OC.co.uk's fault - Sadly they will receive the brunt of the complaints but so long as they are dealing with it the best they can and my RMA goes through ok then I'm cool.

Of course the worst case scenario for me is that they send me another card and the second one is also duff... that would be frustrating!!

What you must consider too is that there may be a big bunch of people who have bought the HIS card and had no problems at all! I mean, I would not have even registered here had there not been a problem with the card! So we don't truly know the percentage of working / duff cards.

I hope your RMA goes through fine too.

For what it's worth. I went for the Sapphire (due to arrive today). It's cheaper, and I intend to whack a Zalman Fatal1ty cooler on the GPU, Zalman heatsinks on the memory and some Thermaltake sinks on the VRMs. From what I've read this should sort it out fully and give me some o/c headroom too.

That why I decided not to RMA my card. I have it working at stock speed,
apart from the fan settings. I managed several hours of playing with it this
way and it has not had any problems. I really hope they sort out the issues with
these cards.

I really need a new case, can anyone recommend one with go airflow.
I like the look of Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming case.
any other recommendations

Yes thats all I want really m8. I dont actually want to overclock as I cant afford to take the risk, so to have it running at stock speeds (620) i dont mind increasing the fan if needed but it not being able to run as it was supposedly meant to... BAD! If i get mine RMA'd and it comes back with a decent one that runs well out of the box, Id be the happiest man in the world (well sorta).

If have a modest setup and adequate airflow in my Jeantech Thong (Phong I mean). would go for the 900 (that has reviewed well) if I had a bit more extra cash otherwise the Phong2 is a good sound case for me.

thanks
