*** The Official X1950 Pro Thread ***

Lo all.

Got the Corsair HX 620W psu today and installed it all and the x1950pro is workin fine for now kinda after about 2 hrs messing about since use.

One thing tho. I downloaded drivers from ati site the 6.12 drivers and later i got the 6.12 drivers from HIS. Now before and now i have sync issues in games and desktop as in it doesnt look like vsync works. Any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it? I tryed enabling vsync via desktop taskbar thing but dont think it really did anything.

Also i dl ati tray tools and im running artifact finder thing. After a few mins gpu is up to 57/58 and mem is 47 [env]. First fun through it found 1 artifact after 105 seconds. Its now reset artifact reults and starting from 0 again its up to 202 seconds and found 0 artifacts this time.

Now about the blocks on the whole screen during 3dmark 05 as posted above with pics showing it. I saw this but one for 1 second while it was at the end of 1 test and transitioning to the next test. Should i be worried.?

According to tray tools the gpu and mem is operating at 621/1485 [using ddr show option]. Is this about right?

I can definatly feel hot air coming out of the back grill area of the card. But im not sure fan has increased speed much as you know when you turn comp on from cold and the fan really stirs up then goes quiet. Well its remained at the quiet volume constantly. Never sounds like its going faster when gaming or during 3dmark 05 or this artifact tester. So is this normal or not? If not advise please.

Artifacts [missing textures which are pure colour]

Was fine for 2 mins then were like this. I doubt temps were much higher than 58 gpu and 48 mem.

--

Snowdog said try diff drivers but which ones, original from cd i got with card, or 7.1 drivers. Tho to be honest i dont think it will help but if a few ppl say try it i will.

--

Btw what bios settings should i use i mean i am currently using same from when i had the asus v9999 in so just woundering if i need to change any setting cos its a ati card or somit.

Bad things started happening to my picture once my card gets about 58c+
I think your problem sounds the same as mine, use ati tools to change the
fan settings.

This cards fan should speed up and blow out the hot air, you can hear the
differance and you can feel it blowing strongly out the back.

Im using the ATI 7.1 drivers, maybe the offical driver control the fan a bit
better. I will have to try this when I can. Her indoors is getting the hump
over the attention th PC is getting at the mo. LOL

What you must consider too is that there may be a big bunch of people who have bought the HIS card and had no problems at all! I mean, I would not have even registered here had there not been a problem with the card! So we don't truly know the percentage of working / duff cards.

Exactly. I have the HIS card (pci-e) and have not a single gripe, it's just an excellent card, no noise issues, no power issues, no overheating issues.
I was in the same boat a couple of years back when OCUK cleared out a batch of oem (hercules) ATI 9800 pro cards. They shifted so many of them so quickly because the price was so good that it seemed like an awful lot of them were borked. I got a good card that time also even after reading the bad stories as it's pot luck whatever you pick.

I dunno what to do now. I've just initiated my RMA(1st email sent and reply received) Ive also just reinstalled oblivion (vanilla) and have it on high + bloom&AA or HDR. absolutely gorgeous!!! some shader probs though. ill get a screenie if it continues. but its is BEAUTIFUL. I am still running it underclocked at 600/1485 + 100% Fan though.

What should I do?

And yes skeeterpsa, do that atitool and up the fan to 100%.

Does it crash at stock setting when the side panel is off?
Have you got enough ventilation in your case?
If your card crashs when running at the stock clock setting then I think
you should send it back. You paid the extra for it to run at those speeds!

Thing is i aint had a crash yet. Just gta sa looking messed up with textures. I am now on 7.1 drivers and i still get them white squares on the building in the screenie i provided earlier. Here is a shot of the chute i was using and i cant remember it ever looking like this when i played before with 6800 or the gf4 ti4200.

Do you think i have a bad card if so should i rma it?

Sweet, good to hear a happy story about the HIS card! Hopeful that the next one will be 100% working. Does anybody know how long an RMA here at Overclockers takes normally? They received mine on the 30th January at 10:30am... just wondering when I should expect something back?

I don’t think your have a bad card. Did you play around with your fan setting?
From my experience when it crashes it’s all over the screen, not just one texture on it.
Might be worth trying different drivers. As when I have had things like that,
that has normally sorted it out. Happened to me with the sky in wolfenstein on first level turned
into a black and grey checked box.

Does it happen in any other games?

Did some more testing last night and I have the exact same problem as you. I'm currently running the HIS underclocked at 600/1485 + 100% Fan and I can even overclock the memory a bit. However, if I raise the core to 620 where it should be, the black screen issue returns. Wonder if we have duff cores or overheating VRMs? I have recieved an RMA # already from OcUK but I don't know if I'm actually going to do it. I don't know how much testing they'll do or the conditions and with my awful luck they will probably just send my card back to me and charge me for it. I also "live across the pond" at the moment so this complicates matters even further.

What are you system specifcations elguwapo? Anything like mine?

Aint messed with fan as i uninstalled ati tray tools as i was only after seeing the artifact viewer thing for test and also see what the mem and gfx core temps were which i think were good enough. I think the fan only kicks up after 60c and kicks off full tilt at 90c.

Tryed 6.12 drivers and 7.1 drivers so duno how else to try diff drivers.

GTA sa seems to be the only game thats messing up. After i tested bridge commander, gta sa, scarface. Scarface was performing horid but snowdog told me its cos of vsync was on. Tho no artifacts etc in that game or bridge commander or at least non that were obvious.

YEs im opretty sure the card would work fine!

Dont listen to the above post, i dont think he read your spec ;) , as the shuttle does have a really solid PSU with really good output, one of the most efficient out there! COnsidering a 300w shuttle is running an 8800gtx(yes it can fit in certain models) im sure u'd be fine :)

You may need to get a better psu but obviously no point getting the shuttle 250w if you can get the 300w! Certainly worth a try mate!

i thought as much, dont think the 300w fits in my shuttle does it?

would the x1950 pro be cpu limited if i just went for that?

like the idea of selling my gfx card and just upgrading the gfx rather than the whole lot....

obviously this would be the last upgrade i could do ... am i better just biting the bullet and going to the c2d?

Well i had the heating on and im boiling and i been playing gta sa again, still not sure on if i need to reinstall game for some reason or not, but regardless no crashes and nothing too bad texture missing wise. So its defo not a heat issue.

just got a HIS X1950 pro iceq 3 turbo and i cant figure out how to overclock it.

radlinker doesn't recognise it, atitool just gives me a black screen as soon as i go 1mhz on either core or mem and atitraytools just resets back to default when i hit apply.

any help appreciated.

Hiya guys

As promised, I chucked in the new Corsair HX520W power supply tonight, and as expected, I still have the black-screen issue when I set the GPU back to default (620) on my HIS.

Still, it's a glorious power supply and I'd recommend it to anyone.

As previously stated, just gonna keep my card, and run it at 600/1486.

It must be dodgy GPU's at the heart of this issue - at 600, I can run ATI Tool with the 3D display on, and I watch the temp rise, but it levels off at 61C - which means that in theory, the fan will never go above 41% - bit of a waste of overclocking potential in my case but never mind.

Hope you guys that are RMA'ing your cards get good ones back.

I hate to be a pain with what probably are silly questions, but here goes. I decided to go for the Sapphire X1950 Pro 512 AGP, instead of the HIS, and have ordered it today. Reasons being, my system is pretty old, but I can't yet afford to build another, every penny counts at the moment, and my X800XL died the other day.
So instead of my last question about molex-PCI adaptors, I have another. Besides the regular white plastic molex connectors, my Tagan has 2 of these:

Kick me if you want, spit on me and pour countless gallons of scorn upon my noobish ignorance, but first, please tell me if these are ok to use on my new card. I know they say VGA on them, but I'm proceeding with extreme caution. This card has almost cost me a divorce, so I don't want to even risk breaking it.

Hi, I've just purchased the HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ3 Turbo 512MB from OC and I'm trying to connect to my TV using the supplied s-video connector that has a blue/green/red phonos on it. However my TV has only video in, yellow, and two audio sockets, red/white. Am I using the correct cable or do I need to somehow obtain another one from somewhere, and if so, where?
Thanks
ChrisC
