To honestjohn,
Yes exactly my thoughts also. I am so in love with the <HIS x1950Pro 512> already that I am hesitant to give it back, in case I get another broken one or they find out that my system has poo for brains, or even replace it with the sapphire. I have actually brought the GPU core up to 607.5/default mem speed. and it is working well at that level, any higher would bring back oblivion *sorry* I mean bring back the BSOD. I dont really understand by what you mean by "living across the pond" but I dont think you are a FROG :P
My system isnt as *badass* as yours m8 as I am always on a tight budget but ill post it here anyway as I get confused trying to modify my "userCP" I might do later. so here goes, dont laugh OK ;)
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.2
MSI K8N neo Platinum nForce3 250
Corsair value DDR 1024Mb
Creative Audigy (old card latest drivers: not an x-fi but itll do me for now)
1 x 160Gb Seagate Barracuda EIDE
1 x 250Gb Hitachi Deskstar SATA
DVD (i forgot which kind this is but its bog standard dual layer thingy)
Jeantech Phong
powered by Seasonic S12-430

Hey, tried 614 Mhz. this morning myself which crashed and burned. Didn't try 607 Mhz. Also, I never considered my system badass before, but thank you and I would say yours is defintely nothing to be ashamed of. I see in a few posts up that you're going to try updating your N-Force drivers, that's good to do, but it won't fix our problem. I've updated every driver, tried every video driver combination, every clocking tool and every trick I've learned in the past 15 years and nothing has worked. I also refuse to buy another cooler to slap on, I doubt it would help much anyway. So, if you couldn't tell already, I just got home from dropping the card in the mail for an RMA. I know underclocking works, but it's driving me crazy and if it's acting like this now, what's it going to be doing in 6 months? I would also never be able to resell the card which is how I always fund my new toys.

Oh, and that across the pond comment I made, meant I was from the United States. I saw an old movie once where a British chap was asking another person who was actually an American, where he came from. I know. I watch too much TV.

Your a bubble wrap serial killer! :p

Hiya Three,
The 1950pro doesn't need as much juice as all the specs say, I don't know if ATI are just covering the other fullfledged 1950 cards. There's an article on xbit or anand, which shows the 1950pro using the same amount of power as the older x850xt - about 66w under load

My mates just installed a pro in his system with only a 320w psu and no problems

Thanks for the reply Rick.

Hi there,

Looking at getting one of these x1950 pros in the next couple of weeks, which one is the one to go for?

I don't want the one with the squealy fan and I was looking at the saphire ultimate with the VF900 cooler?

Suggestions please...

The HIS X1950 Pro is probably the best of the bunch, however a number of people (including myself) got a batch of cards with a 'rattling' fan?, I sent mine back and the second HIS X1950 Pro I got is perfect, had it one month now and it meets my expectations 100%

If u don't wanna risk it then the Power-Colour and Sapphire Ultimate are good choices also. (owned the power-colour card but the HSF was too 'tall' to fit inside the case. . .

what clocks are you guys getting with the HIS X1950 Pro 256mb without changing voltages or such?

i only had a quick go at OC'ing it last night and reached 668 / 770 (1540) stock clocks are 620 / 740 (1480)

Hi all,

received my X1950 Pro AGP yesterday and just wanted to let anyone interested know that my PSU is also under the box specification at only 365W with 26a on the 12v rail and no problems seen here so far.

3dmark 2005: 8041
3dmark 2006: just under 4000 on 06
(couldn't upload to orb at the moment as it moaned there were later versions)

Same system running
x800XT PE:6226 on 05 & 2041 on 06
9800 Pro: 2777 on 05

My replacement HIS x1950 (AGP) arrived at my house today (thank you remote access webcam and awesome citylink site!). I had the black screen issue but sent the card back to OC.co.uk.

I will post my results when I get this in tomorrow.

Thanks and looking forward to it. It would be nice to know that I've got a shot at getting a "good" card back, and it's not some low-level hardware incompatibility causing the issue.

Sent it back US Global *cough* Priority Mail, so you'll probably get yours back before I do. You do know that's not what I meant about low-level hardware? But now that you bring it up, I did notice one similarity between our two systems. We are both using NForce 3 250 based motherboards, I'm sure there is nothing to it though. That would be grasping at straws again.

Well I've put the new card in and it's looking good so far, had a half hour blast on FEAR with no problems and have been running benchmarks whilst I've done some maintenance on the car - seems solid, will continue to test!

What makes the HIS one better? surely the sapphire one would perform better as it has higher core freq, and mem speeds?

Also its pci-e if just for the record!

Cheers

The sapphire has faster Memory (1600mhz) than the HIS, but the GPU is slower (580 to the HIS's 620 - or 630 as it usually is for some reason) The HIS easily clocks to 1600MHZ RAM in my experience, and of course you get the hot air exhausting out the back of your PC too. If only HIS actually made them properly  Without the rattly fans, screen blackouts, etc etc

Thanks very much for the ray of hope, Machine.

Also, I just had a thought regarding our issue of signal loss / black screen crash on the HIS ICEQ3 Turbo. Those of us with the problem can run our cards underclocked with the core set at 600-607 Mhz without issue. I'm wondering if there was some kind of production mistake and HIS mistakenly used the GPU's from the standard version which is rated to run at 575 Mhz. on our ICEQ3 Turbo cards. Guess the why's really don't matter as long as we get replacements which work.

Why have you had a lot of trouble with a HIS one - I remember the bluetack episode :)

*too lazy to scan whole thread :o *
