*** The Official X1950 Pro Thread ***

MY second HIS card has started rattling and i'm fed up with it. Thinking of switching it for the powercolour of the same specs, but i'm worried about the size. Has anyone got a measurement of how far the cooler overhangs the card? Also, have there been any problems with the powercolours?

how come? I got one from HIS and it is working perfectly

by the way, it's the "Rev.2" card, with Samsung -1.2ns GDDR3 :D

edit: default clocks are 590/1540 ;)

So they changed the Core speed on the Rev-2 cards to 590 Mhz. huh. No wonder I had to Underclock my last two ICEQ3 cards to get them to work properly and It looks like HIS came to the same conclusion. If you think about it, it's really is a brilliant move on their part and should significantly cut-down on their returns since they are now only guaranteeing the card will run at a Core speed of 590 Mhz. So people who receive the quality GPUs will be able to overclock their cards nicely, while the rest of us won't be able to complain at all since the card is running at the advertised Core speed.

I don't know whether to be angry or happy. I've gone from using a faulty HIS X1950 ICEQ3 - 620 Mhz Core / 1480 Mhz. Mem to a perfectly running do-it-yourself AGP Rev-2 HIS ICEQ3 - 600 Mhz. Core / 1540 Mhz. Mem, just by using ATI Tray Tools.

Rev 2 already sounds like 620 core versions were mostly all dodgy then. Should i ask for a rev 2 card just to be safe? I have no probs to be honest. But just incase?

Edit: after looking at HIS site its only for PCI-E cards not agp. So i presume you were talking about PCI-E version not AGP?

Yeah skeeter, I was referring to the PCI-E card, but since all the cards use the the same RV570 GPU the problems will be the same across platforms. That's really what I was getting at. I'm sure an AGP Rev-2 isn't far off. Although the only difference between Rev.1 and Rev.2 appears to be the default clock speeds in the BIOS.

you should be talking about this:

by the way, I am not an AGP user but it is good to see this is out.

Hmm that wasnt there when i looked a few days ago. Ah well. Should i return my card even tho theres no bother with it and get the rev 2 if i can. Well except for the odd occasion when in gta sa fps go to a crawl for about 30 seconds at random times i play.

It may have been there and we just didn't see it. If you browse for the card from the ICEQ3 drop-down list, it's not there. But if you browse all cards from the top, it is.

I wouldn't bother trading in you card for a Rev.2 with a lower core speed. If you use ATI Tray Tools you can adjust the clocks yourself to Rev.2 specs.

I wouldn't adjust the clocks, Just RMA it as its borked, you should not have to downclock it for it to work, simple as that. :)

Got a new problem for you guys.
I've had my Sapphire [sp] 512MB 1950Pro GPU for a while and its been working fine. But now when ever I play a DVD and finish watching a film or episode, close Intervideo DVD my machine just hangs! Its so annoying having to reset everytime.

I've just done a format (Norton Image Process :) ) and ran O&O Defrag software. and its hanged my computer again. At first I thought it was the drivers or the DVD application but after a clean image and running O&O I dont know what to think now????

My computer is a bit disty i beleive due to the nature of my room but can that actually hang my PC at times?

Help - Thanks.

EDIT: I've played games like COH and C&C 3 Demo and it doesn't hand during the game or after I close it. What do you think it is?

Sorry, but that was almost pure sarcasm directed at the new Rev.2 cards. This is not however, I wouldn't be suprised if the Rev.1 ICEQ3 RMA's start getting replaced very soon with Rev.2 cards which have a 590 Mhz. Core instead of the Rev.1 620 Mhz. Core. Once Supplies of the Rev.1 run out, this has to happen.

would you do a "surgery" to change the RAM chips to -1.2ns by yourself?

the new version (590/1540) is about 5% faster than Rev.1 I found.

Thanks so very much for the helpful advice Theo. Don't need to do surgery on the RAM chips because my HIS Rev.1 is doing 1540 Mhz. just fine with it's BC14 700 Mhz. Samsung Mem Chips. Guess you don't need the BC12 800 Mhz. chips like the Rev.2s to do the same speed.

Also, that's really very interesting that you found Rev.2 to be 5% faster? That's great. Makes me even happier I received a (2) duff Rev.1 cards which I had to change to Rev.2 clocks.

Hey all, just a quick note to say I sent my HIS x1950Pro back, the rattle sound started after a few weeks :(

Real shame that HIS released such an nice product and then and stuck a cheap fan on it!

Anyway in order that I can continue to use my PC I had to source a cheap silent card (cheap but not Turbo-cache cheap!)

Lol! :) Currently playing through the Original COD, 1280x1024, Max, 2xAA, 4xAF smooth as silk! :o

Oh well I enjoyed the x1950, not sure I will buy a HIS card again though!

have the rev. 2 HIS cards still got the rattling fan problems? This is the second HIS 1950pro i've had and its driving me up the wall.

Think it's too soon to tell since Rev.2 is so new. I would think so though. They have obviously been paying attention and recognized there were problems with Rev.1, starting with the clocks.
