The Olympic Ranting Thread

Boo hoo wah wah The Olympics makes me need to get up earlier to be on time rather than blaming everyone else.

Can I moan about people moaning?

Good lord it has gotten seriously worse round here!

Journeys which take 5 minutes are taking 20+ minutes!

Caught a bus earlier today; a stretch of road which normally takes no longer than 45 seconds to traverse took a whopping 13 minutes. And then you have an embarrassing and annoying message recorded by Boris Johnson which gets played every 5 minutes.

i have a bizarre idea, you could get off the bus and walk ! save money and get in better shape its win win.

I'm generally pretty up beat about the olympics. However, my life is going to be blighted for the entire period by the fact that I have this moored outside my flat hosting the german olympic team:

http://www.itv.com/news/london/update/2012-07-24/ms-deutschland-squeezes-in/

my flat is just to the left of the top picture.

It makes a droning racket 24 hours a day, blocks the light and when the window blows, the diesel fumes blow towards my windows.:mad::mad:

Did I just witness someone defending carrying a knife for the purpose of cutting loose threads?

I carry a pen knife when I'm on a long cycle, for obvious reasons. I can't think of any day to day situation where one would urgently need a knife.

Yet Another Manly Asim Thread.

Edit: to stay on topic, I think the olympics was and is a great idea. And I'm more than willing to let a few Londoners' massively convenienced lifestyle suffer for it.

Of course there is..gbh

luckily where i live isnt affected, but every other news article about it gets tedious, i dont carefor it, i think the main sponsors are terrible and send the wrong message..but least they are paying for it! Its only a few weeks and i know a lot of people like it. Do not envy people whos commutes are affected!would p me off.

Least the gym will be quieter! I prefer to do than watch..if i see that damn tom dayley (sp) ad again..grr

I've been keeping an open mind about the Olympics. Despite it going to make certain elements of life a little difficult I think the general vibe is going to be quite exciting :)

Any negative opinions I have had have been brought on by the fact that I never got tickets :( too many people in London anyway, with the tourist season in full swing and not to mention even more screw ups on the more than screwed up already public transport system.

Answer = stay out of London when you can!

The worst thing that has happened to us (I can only assume that it was linked to the Olympics) is that Balfour Beatty decided to do some track work between the hours of 2am and 4am on two consecutive days last week.

They have never done this before in the last 6 years I have lived there - or, have done but in daylight hours and are obviously trying to get things done before the Olympics.

May just be a coincidence but hey.

My rant is the military being screwed over by G4S shortfalls.

We are likely to have our block leave destroyed by this .

TBH i feel much safer that the military is around then some jumped up security nobheads that have an inflated sense of self-worth making stupid decisions about your safty. You know the army lads will be far more level headed and be way more professional. Should have been like that from the begining in my opinon

Or do you honestly think the tools are the cause?

Yep, TOOLS are definately the cause ;)

But back on topic, Im gritting my teeth at the moment, the Boris recorded message just feels incredibly patronising, in fact it all does....

Avoid using the transport that YOU have funded, so people can go to some glorified sports day that YOU have funded...

RAGE

OK forget what I said earlier.

Just came home from an Opening Ceremony rehearsal.

Epic. Just epic. Never has my opinion been changed so drastically.

The opening ceremony and the Olympics are going to be fantastic.

I honestly take back everything I said earlier. I honestly don't give a **** any more about how I'm going to travel around London. After actually seeing what will go down on Friday I cannot believe this is happening on my doorstep.

3 weeks or so of chaos is bearable when I think about the all the joy and happiness that will be felt by the hundreds of thousands of people who have made these games possible; from the constructors, builders, stewards, performers, right down to every spectator, absolutely everyone.

Joy and happiness shall be forgot when the EU collapses.

I am a killer of joy, wherever i feel like it.

I heard it was good. I live quite close, a light show is going on now and a blimp has been hovering for the past hour over my flat.

My rants:

- Military boys and girls being screwed over because of G4S
- The olympic lanes especially on the Highway, no turning to the local side roads 1 mile straight road now, so all local traffic banged up on Commercial road while not many vips on the olympic lanes
- VIPs snubbing the village and want to travel from central london, well why couldn't they allow more journey time for themselves if that's where they want to stay?
- Since when did mcDonalds start selling chips?
- local businesses being screwed over by the big sponsers
- Your average joe bloggs priced out of most of the interesting events
- tourists/visitors will not get to see the real London as they will be moved around like a heard of sheep
- more retards on the boris bikes with no comprehension of the highway code
- imho it has become a big corporate orgy, cluster ******g the locals.

there, I feel better now :)
