The Olympic Ranting Thread

A massive waste of money. Im not into sport @ all but Im also not against it..wanna make that clear :)

But...the expenditure on this..."Olympics" joke is beyond comprehension.

Add to that the insult to our WARFIGHTERS who are back from combat-tours (looking forward to seeing their families) and are now being made to do check backpacks.

Thnak goodness for channel-filtering on my TV.....block block and block :D
 
You may argue that the games will bring X million profit, but... I'd rather the government stopped wasting BILLIONS, so they wouldn't need to whore out the country for a few million.

Just seems sensible.

I see the London Olympics is meeting the standard of quality we all expected:

The Olympics got off to an embarrassing start overnight when North Korea's women footballers refused to play after a mix-up over their national flag.

The match, at Hampden Park in Glasgow, was delayed for more than an hour after a giant screen at the stadium showed images of the North Korean team alongside the South Korean flag.

Red-faced organisers were quick to apologise for the howler, involving two nations which are technically still at war.

North Korea finally relented and went on to win the match against Colombia 2-0.

The flag mix-up was not the only problem overnight.

Elsewhere, Team GB sent out an email referring to the Great Britain women's football team as "England" after a 1-0 win against New Zealand.

Meanwhile organisers had to offer a refund to diving fans whose view will be partially obscured due to a defect in the purpose-built, wave-shaped Aquatics Centre.

I think it might be down to the way the OP put it across. You wouldn't call your leatherman a blade would you? I'd just call it a penknife or multitool!

I would treat in in the same way. I'd not carry a pen knife with me everyday, unless I had a specific need (cycling, fishing etc). Same goes for a leathermen.

How it see it is if you can't take it on a plane, you can't take it into a venue.

Agreed re: the army. Far more trustworthy.

G4S would have used jobseekers and paid them nothing except "experience".

Just had the Olympic Torch relay go past my house in London.

What I wasnt expecting was the 4 or 5 sponsors "party buses" that preceded it. Bit OTT imo.

Greatest Show on Earth? I thought that was the Super Bowl? Didn't the World Cup claim to be the same thing as well last time out, they can't all be right.

I'll watch the Olympics sure, but let's not pretend it's anything more than an overblown sports day for adults.

Indeed, I mean you can't really try and compare the Olympics to Wrestlemania.

The Olympics.....36 events over 3 weeks compared to the Super Bowl which is watched the world over but only taken seriously in America. The world cup si good but I have never heard it called the greatest show on earth.

As for calling it a sports day for adults lets see you get out there in any one of the events and perform 1/10 as well as any of the athletes. After training for years and making sacrifices to get to where they are. These are people who are the best in the world.
