I have some disappointing news. Those of you with X-Fi cards who wish to enable EAX will experience a considerable reduction in frame rate :( I've been experimenting with the settings and with EAX enabled performance drops by around 20 FPS. Something tells me that the 64MB of RAM on my X-Fi isn't being utilised.

BAH! I have an XFI so it looks like I'll get even more performance than I am now  with EAX off.

You will indeed. Try it out for yourself and see if you get similar results to me

EDIT - Oh and let me know too will you please :)

Halfway through downloading and Virgin just throttled my connection from 4mb to 2mb. 1h43 remaining, from 50 minutes. I feel murderous.
They need to be sued/fined for false advertising - a 4mb unlimited connection should be a 4mb unlimited connection...

How long did it take?

-- off topic --

Is GigaGet actually anything more special than your standard download manager?

About 2 hours i think. Speed ranged from 200-300k

I don't know, it's the first download manager i've used.

same with ******* tiscali

ah i cant download this, everywhere has low speeds, ill wait till the release perhaps

I cant believe some people with GTX's have said it hasnt ran as smooth as they'd like!

I've just maxed it out, with vSync off, on a 22" 1680 x 1050 res, on a 256mb x1650xt instead of the GTS in my sig and altho it wasn't perfectly smooth it was comfortably playable. Those cards are like £50 now aswell.

My GTS ran it flawlessy which is what prompted me to try out the 1650, unbelievable how well this game has been put together.

I dont think i can pick a winner graphically between palying this and the 360 demo on hdtv, although I'am running on DX9 so maybe with dx10 features with PC would just sneak it.

Yea if the FPS goes below 60 the engine locks to 30fps

With VSYNC on it goes

60
30
15

afaik.

You can get around this with tripple buffering, if you set vsync to on, and run D3DOverrider in the background (it's a util which comes with Riva Tuner). You may need to uncheck Enable LoadLibraryHooking though, as I have found in Halo2 and Vegas this can crash the game in Vista.

The newsgroups version is corrupt. It cannot be par repaired.

There is another one being uploaded now though.

Tell me bout it, repaired volumes 8 and 15 and still not joy, it teases you though by letting you get to the install screen :(

Well I've just been playing it.. Although it runs smooth as anything, the water textures don't display properly, also seem to be getting some seethrough textures!

Is there anyone else with X-Fi cards who has tried with EAX enabled and disabled? I'm curious about others peoples performance as mine suffers a lot with EAX enabled.

I've got an XFi, I left EAX on because I thought it would sound better.. Haven't suffered from any stuttering.. Thats with a 2900 and a [email protected]..

Not stuttering. Just a large drop in FPS, nearly a 20 FPS drop at times infact. It was already pretty smooth, but with EAX off its now running like a hot knife through butter.

EDIT- running QX6700 at 3.0GHz, 8800GTX, 2GB RAM.

I just ran through half the demo again with the fraps benchmark I got around the same give or take a few fps so it seems EAX dosnt affect me.
