The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

Something I didn't know until reading that thread is that Musk didn't even start Tesla. I assumed it was his baby.

He bought in to it in a big way, and then years later there was a lawsuit which subsequently allowed himself to be named as a co-founder, even though the company was founded a year prior to his involvement.

The guy likes to rewrite history.

It goes hand in hand with a lot of these CEO, money and power eventually get to their head.

I really don't understand why some people put him up on some pedestal.

No, but it was him that took it from a 3 employee company to the most valued car company in the world?

That is like Ray Croc being the founder of McDonald's.

Whilst he was instrumental in their expansion, he is not the founder. He bought the company in 1961 but the first McDonald's started in 1940.

Following the recent explosion of people testing the limits of content on Twitter, more than 1,500 accounts have been banned.

Don't they already pay $5 for the blue tick?
Nope

The blue tick was put in basically as a least effort thing to try and stop Twitter being taken to court for allowing imposters/scammers pretending to be famous people without any checks, it was the easiest way for twitter to have a defence in court "well we try and verify real celebs".

The $5 is to basically let people edit tweets for a few minutes.

Something I didn't realise is that apparently some people already pay for third party apps/tools to do really basic stuff to manage their accounts and make them somewhat more usable for people who either get a lot of followers or a lot of trolls. Apparently there are apps that let you manage things like blocking known trolls, schedule tweets and compose tweets so you can automatically break down a message into suitable chunks and have it spell checked.

So basically if musk wanted to make some money from twitter, he could have started by say offering an improved interface...

In much the same way that everyone seems to worship him for inventing everything at SpaceX, when the guy has a basic physics degree (with economics) and nothing else. He had the money to get the people who actually design and create these things without being stifled by government contracts and budgets so off they went and created the (incredibly successful) Falcon 9 series.

You only have to look at the myriad of failed projects and grifts to see the real Musk - the same guy who said we'd have started a colony on Mars by now using his Starship design.

That's a frightening thought.

What do you mean the real Musk? It's totally common for successful businessman to lose money and for projects to fail. Trump went bankrupt what, four times?

Musk tries to take credit for the Hyperloop - an idea he has given absolutely no input to and has simply pretended to invent while telling other people to do it. Despite it being a 100 year-old idea which will never work because, you know, physics is a thing, yet people just worship him like some tech-jesus.

Anyone seen a Cybertruck yet? You know, the project that was meant to be delivered in 2019 and replace all road and rail transportation? Autonomous self driving? That's always a year away and will never work as he's claimed because computers aren't good enough for it. Robotaxis? The Boring Company just digs tunnels very very slowly.

It is yes but then some things shouldn't have been said in the first place. He wouldn't have had to take it down without knowing all facts.

That's a given, I'm addressing the commentary about him deleting it, given he's posted some dumb fake news should he take responsibility for it and remove it or should he leave it up there?

Not posting it in the first place is the right thing to do.

Yup, but that isn't what I'm replying to.

Reading more about this blue tick thing, apparently there is 360k blue tick users to date. Charging them raises approx 86 million.

Advertisers spend about 5 billion.

Such small change at the risk of pushing away the ones who make the content for twitter.

If anything, twitter could charge a 1 off fee to get your blue tick, and then with that you get a host of privaliages. You then continue to freely make the content that users then view, and advertisers continue to advertise next to.
