Not had so much fun on the internet since the early 00s. Thanks Elon.
This.
It is astonishing that he thought just paying for a blue tick mark was a good idea. Truly astonishing.

Has anyone wondered whether this whole thing stunt is just for news and clicks? It’s certainly got a lot of people talking about Twitter.
It has news and clicks but not because Roar's baby daddy wanted it, more that he is likely to be up infront of a Judge at some point soon. Twitter is certainly being talked about, just ask their adverti - oh.Has anyone wondered whether this whole thing stunt is just for news and clicks? It’s completely devalued Twitter as a platform for advertisers and they are ultimately the only way of making money out of social media. Not all publicity is good publicity.Has anyone wondered whether this whole thing stunt is just for news and clicks? It’s certainly got a lot of people talking about Twitter.

Exactly. Imagine arguing for days about the issue of the activists when in reality, it's all Elon's fault. At best all the activists have done is point out to companies what was about to happen, but they would have known alreadyThose dammed AcTiViStS at it again eh Elon.

Thanks mrk.
No, it's not a stunt, he's just iterating product development in real-time and being quite open about it... which isn't necessarily a good thing as far as appealing to advertisers who are already a bit concerned about him!
I don't want to criticise that too much, I think lots of it is just spaceship man bad nonsense, people generally haven't had an issue with the move fast, break stuff mentality in the past but Elon has been mostly a product guy, he's not had to worry as much about advertisers, he's had to worry about getting the product right, not caring about bad press and then proving people wrong with a good final product - the guy brought electric cars into the mainstream years ahead of when they'd otherwise likely have appeared and built a private space company which created rockets that can land themselves, that's insanely impressive and he wasn't phased about the usual critics etc... but that's not necessarily a good thing here because of the reliance on advertising, he's not just building a good product with cool features/some ambitious vision (in this case a kind of WeChat/everything app service), he needs that revenue else there is a genuine risk of bankrupcy... some of that explicit mention of bankrupcy may have been an egotistical attempt at motivating some of the staff who are keen to remain but there is real risk here for Twitter.
Everyone loves jumping on the product decisions, implementation but the general strategy, ideas there seem fine. Their ads seem a mess though, he could totally optimise ads with a bit of ML investment, the user data is there for them + he could tone down some of the unfiltered douchebag behavour on twitter and do some of his sales/account management people a big favour as they try to win back brands.
