The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

All this points to really is that Musk doesn't have a clue with many things. Just throws money at things then messes up the whole system and moves onto the next thing to throw money at. If the videos that popped up in recent months of his yes men telling him how his "meme game is strong" after he stole a meme and claimed it as his own wasn't enough then I don't know what is lol.

dowie there were posters on here that said this verified idea would be a disaster but somehow Musk couldn't see it? How much damage has that insanity caused?

I don't see that it is a disaster, expanding verification is a good idea and the right direction to take. Some pranksters having fun with the initial iteration doesn't negate that. The broader issue with advertisers is more Elon himself being a loose cannon and the activist types who really, really don't like him rather than some embarrassment with a product update.

You don't see what happened as a disaster? Seriously? It was badly thought out and was always going to happen. You can't give any old Tom, Dick or Harriet a verified badge and not expect them to do what they did, $8 for that much fun was cheap. It was the icing on the cake of what has been one **** up after another. You can try and polish that turd if you want but its still a turd.

They already had advertiser issues and that has just made it so much worse. Then we have all the resignations from the top of the teams that are meant to protect advertisers and the rest of us.

I think I may have found out who @Roar87 is.

Elon Musk’s mother has urged the billionaire’s critics to “stop being mean to him” and says that because of his massive success her son “gets a lot of hate.”

Maye Musk defended the new Twitter owner in a BBC documentary in the United Kingdom in which she described the world’s richest person as a “genius.”

Well someone has to be mean to him or else his endless horde of sycophantic yes-men will sabotage him.
Exactly. She's just basically excusing anything bad he does and just says it's all our fault for finding issue with Elon's latest terrible decisions.

"don't worry Elon, you're perfect. It's the poor people who are just jealous. That's the only reason you're getting critisism. Keep doing what you're doing. Yes you're great. Yes you make perfect decisions"

I just got back from a friends 50th. Ran into guy I haven't seen for nearly 20 years. We get chatting and he says he's now working at Ofcom, regulating social media companies  Obviously I immediately ask him what he thinks of what is happening at Twitter and he just laughs and says its ******! He said they all thought it might be bad when Musk was buying it because there are so many hoops you have to jump through to be compliant and apparently Twitter was already under some scrutiny by US and EU regulators but no one thought it would go this bad, this quickly and they are all just watching this unfold in real time and he is convinced its finished if he doesn't get someone in who knows what they are doing and he needs to do it quickly. Regulators will cut them a bit of slack as its just changed hands and is reorganising but that rope will run out very quickly.

Sadly other friends didn't share our interest in Twitter talk :( and the conversation was moved on to another subject. Could be interesting times ahead though.

Just seeing that apparently contractors with Twitter are finding out they've been fired by the classy method of them just losing access to the systems, no emails, no calls, and in many cases even their managers haven't been told.

This apparently includes people actively getting locked out whilst working on such trivial things such as child safety, which may not be important to Musk but I suspect may be rather high on the list of priorities for various regulators and legal requirements to operate as a service in many of the countries that Twitter operates in.

I was late to these social media and always considered them enemy propaganda tools. I always considered them hostile places, especially Twitter because of its open nature.

The people on the right who complained had a legitimate reason, that some of the stories they were posting were being blocked, and they were having their accounts suspended for typing about certain subjects.

So far I haven't seen anything like this on the left with Twitter. If you have examples then please post some.

So if no stories are being blocked, and no accounts are being suspended for political reasons, then I can only think that the people thought Twitter was friendly prior to it becoming owned by Musk?

That's the only thing you can think? You can't come up with any other single explanations? Not a single one? Are you sure you definitely can't? Are you sure you're not just seeing what you want to see? Given you cannot think of another reason?

Why don't you try and think of one and we can help expand on it? If you're legitimately wanting to know the answer rather than try and spin things to be how you want them to be, and as usual no one buys it and can see right through your attempt.

You're too clever for the world bro.

Why don't you either answer the question I was asking, or make your own comment?

You're still giving off the appearance of someone that genuinely doesn't want to know the true answer but instead wants to make a point. We can see right through it. You can lose that appearance by trying to come up an option that isn't totally narrow minded. But no one expects you to do that, as like I've said, that's not why you're posting here. Truth isn't what you're looking for.

Who is 'we'? Are you some royal robot now, or is there a team of unwashed potatos working in the background?

I was asking for other peoples opinions.

My opinion, based on what I can see, is that without any evidence that Musk is stopping people posting what they want to, over and above what previously could be posted, it seems like people are leaving (or claiming to) because they don't personally like Musk.

I didn't like the way Jack Dorsey ran Twitter. But I didn't leave the platform.
