The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

If it was false, most rational people would be happy with it. But TBF, who needs to make up stuff about Trump?

You don't necessarily know what's false and what isn't, this is the problem with banning speech. Everyone is too stupid to realise they aren't smart enough to be the arbiters of what should be allowed to be written down or said.

But i presume you wouldnt be happy with Musk banning a bad story about Trump/his family if he runs in 2024.

I don't want owner of any media organisations with the power they have to personally push stories on either side of the aisle. The man has 120m followers and so he carries huge weight. So no, if some suspect story about Trump came out in the run up to an election then I wouldn't want him putting his weight behind it.

I love how arbitrary this gets, "he has too many followers to be allowed an opinion  "

But it isn't that. You just decided that it was that by making it simpler so you can attack it.

You've done that a lot before and you'll do it again. It doesn't work, but continue as you will because this is an Elon thread and you're hard.

But it wasnt false, was it?

Do you know the whole story of what happened and just purposefully over simplifying it? Or do you genuinely not know, but have an opinion on something you've not looked into? Which is it?

Arbitrary?

Surely you understand the difference between having an opinion, which is something that he and everyone else is absolutely “allowed” to have, and purposefully using his platform to prevent a democratic outcome to an election by controlling the flow of information and promulgating misinformation on one of the most widely used media outlets on the planet.

It’s that that @Colonel_Klinck is stating that he would take umbrage with, just as any remotely sensible person would do too.

Your disagreement with him suggests that it’s something that you would be happy with, is it?

Its not just his followers, this is the guy that now owns the platform and gets more coverage than anyone else that is on the platform, if he tweets its news. When he didn't own it it didn't matter, now it does and he is running it like a dictator which is his right, he owns it but he is able to put weight behind any story, give it coverage that would cost $m in other media to promote. You seem to be happy with this, I wonder if you'd be so happy if it was a liberal that owned it and decided to put their weight and reach behind a Democrat or Labour and use their account to promote stories attacking the opposition. I would imagine you wouldn't be happy and you'd be right not to be happy. Owning a platform like this should come with responsibilities but I've seen nothing that makes me think he will behave responsibly, quite the opposite in fact.

I think Elon Musk will probably vote for a Democrat in the future if he feels they're a better candidate, you've decided he's the next Donald Trump when that is absolutely not the case.

You think do you? What has he done that makes you think he will vote for a Democrat? If you say because he said he'd voted Democrat in the past I'll get my lol in early.

It doesn't matter anyway. If he was doing the same for the liberals I would also have a problem with it. As StriderX said above, If Soros had bought it and was using it to push out stories that hurt Republicans and was telling people to vote for Democrats people would rightly be up in arms, that doesn't even compare really as Soros doesn't have a social media presence. I can't think of a figure on the left that would compare.

I don't think he's Trump. For a start he's incredibly clever and Trump isn't. He is likely on the autism spectrum where as Trump is just a narcissistic sociopath. Elon lies all the time but he lies like a salesman lies, there is a purpose to it. Trump is a pathological liar and his lies are all about him, how rich he is, how someone said how amazing he is, how no one is loved like how he is loved, how he has the best memory or knows the most about nuclear weapons, these aren't lies Musk would tell because Musk doesn't have the paper thin ego that Trump has and he doesn't need his self worth to be constantly inflated.

However he could be far more disruptive than Trump, no one really took Trump seriously other than his loon MAGA fans who believe he is the second coming of Christ or politicians because they feared his base or they needed to use him to get what they wanted, mainly reelected. Musk however is taken seriously, if he puts his weight behind an idea or a story it matters. He also isn't a politician so he isn't expected to be overly political, he said Twitter, which is now Elon Musk, was going to be politically neutral but he isn't being politically neutral, far from it.

I feel sorry for Bari Weiss. Taibbi gets the first nothing burger, uses up most of the oxygen in the media trying to pump it up, then she's left with an even smaller nothing burger that Twitter already went public with 4 years ago.

These Twitter Files are a huge anticlimax. When are we going to see the scandalous revelations we were promised?

I suppose if you think the likes of Dorsey, his lawyer etc coming out and saying people aren't shadowbanned based on political beliefs or whatever topic twitter itself didn't agree with numerous times and then finding out that was all lies is a "nothing burger" then yeah I suppose there's not much else to say.
