The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

I have no idea, I don't follow football talking guys.

But to be clear, the UK government can't be compared to Nazis in some respects, because they take in a percentage of the refugees?

Well, mainly they can't be compared to the Third Reich because they are a load of waffling wets, but also becuse they ferry a load of illegal migrants ashore then put them up in hotels. Neither is comparable to a well disciplined and ruthless army that took on a large percentage of the world and nearly won.

Wow, now I know you are just a troll.

Nobody can be this un-self-aware

Thank you for proving my point.

News just in that the Democrats are now claiming that they didn't even bother reviewing the CCTV footage; you know, the event they claimed was comparible to 9/11... In other words, they're now trying to get out of being held to the flame for withholding the footage. Hilarious stuff really

The clips in that video have been cherry picked and has been heavily edited by CNBC to create a false depiction of the mostly peaceful protest, thus should be taken with a pinch of salt
More then 1000 people have been arrested many of which have been found guilty or pleaded guilty due to evidence. If your not trolling then you have been brainwashed by fake media. Many times I have said you come across a gullible and fooled by the fake media. This is yet another exmple of how you have been fooled.

Any way, bringing this thread back on topic instead of the it becoming the town square for banned SC users, it seems the FTC are looking into Twitter and the recent cuts in workforce -

FTC probes Twitter data practices after Elon Musk’s layoffs
...
The Federal Trade Commission is investigating Elon Musk’s mass layoffs at Twitter and trying to obtain his internal communications as part of ongoing oversight into the social media company’s privacy and cybersecurity practices, according to documents described in a congressional report.
https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-n...r-data-practices-elon-musks-layoffs-rcna74015

I'm not entirely convinced anything will come of it although Twitter has in the past paid fines for user data protection and privacy.

Given Musk got rid of most/all of the internal teams that were in charge of data protection and compliance this could be fun for him, especially as IIRC the FTC ruling that twitter was under required proof of compliance and Musk's personal lawyer (not a Twitter lawyer*), was telling the remaining twitter programmers that they could, without any training or legal understanding of what they were doing, "self certify".

And I suspect the EU will be watching the FTC very closely whilst also getting ready for their own turn given the EU actively requires certain actions to be taken and one of the teams Musk got rid of was it's data compliance people in Ireland where they took advantage of a system where you could, if you set it up according to a specific set of rules have one officer covering data compliance for the entire EU. Unless Musk replaced them there is a chance Twitter is on the hook for data compliance in every EU country rather than just the one office.

*Which in itself is rather dodgy, as he was acting in his capacity as Musk's lawyer, not registered as being part of Twitter as company's legal representation, so potentially huge conflict of interest

Musk fans are still begging him to release the mythical 'Epstein client list', and Musk is still being coy about it because he knows that no such list exists. They're also demanding the release of Twitter's 'Fauci files', which Musk promised to deliver many ago despite the fact that they don't exist either.

Fauci and dishonesty campaign? Are are these boneheads still incapable of understanding what gain of function means and think it's a secret project planned by Fauci to release covid into the world still?

Wouldnt musk be in the Epstein files? Thats a dangerous move.

I'm sure you could find some conspiracy theorists into that but I doubt that's what Elon is concerned about, there is plenty of legit criticism re: gain of function research and plenty of motivation to be secretive about it and/or for some to want to downplay the risks. We still don't know for sure whether Covid came from a wet market or a lab leak and frankly, there does need to be more political discussion on that kind of research as the risks of it going wrong are pretty big!

I do quite like the argument that if the thing being researched is sufficiently important but also rather dangerous then the researchers concerned shouldn't be too phased at the prospect of doing their wet work in a remote location and being subject to a 2-week quarantine period after leaving the lab. Certainly, this sort of research perhaps shouldn't be farmed out to China if the moment anything seems to go wrong they're more concerned with covering things up, are slow to sound the alarm and will not allow proper investigations afterward. There need to be better international standards, in general, for this.

The risk of a deadly virus spreading (whether from bats, bad farming practices/bad practices in markets, or a lab leak) is up there with global warming, nuclear war, a massive volcano erupting, and the risk of unaligned AI in terms of the threat to humanity. In fact, while there is plenty of attention on global warming there is a non-trivial risk that one of those other things could set us back to the middle ages if not wipe us out before we even need to worry about rising sea levels or temperatures rendering parts of the world where huge %s of humanity currently reside unlivable.

That the previous administration of Twitter didn't allow for serious concern/discussion about the lab leak to be raised was bad and in general, a more open approach is needed there even with the presence of full-on cranks and conspiracy theorists on the app/website.

i would have thought that the epstein stuff was more historic, and musk is too young/recent to be part of that clique.

i imagine the real issue is, naming those in the files (though wtf as this twitter has those files nonsense story come from), is that they are powerful people with a lot to lose. you'd be making some serious enemies.
