The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

I think it's important for the species that we aren't confined to having a presence just on Earth, he's trying to put Humans on Mars and it's incredibly important that we achieve that since a catastrophic disaster could mean intelligent life is wiped out in the only place we know it exists. Most people on here get upset that he posted something they don't like on Twitter and miss the much bigger picture of him trying to advance the species.

He could do something about climate change with his billions, which is a present and real threat to humanity. But rockets are a much better penis extension than green tech.

Edit: maybe bicep extension would be a better phrase in this case...

Like the time he offered $100 million for ideas to remove Carbon from the atmosphere, and someone pointed out this is exactly what trees do…

He has an electric car company, not that you know ANYTHING about climate change otherwise you wouldn't be suggesting he's even capable of that

Selling those cars at cost is he? Or is he profiteering from people being green?

There are plenty of people working on ways to reduce carbon emissions and carbon capture. I'm sure being the intellectual powerhouse you are you'll be able to tell them they're wasting their time.

I'm assuming you didn't mean what you wrote and that he personally isn't capable of it, which I would agree with.

They mostly are wasting their time yes.

By the way, if you sell things "at cost", then you won't have any money to invest in research and development, or build new factories, or basically do the things that will mean your company is still around in 5 years time. Do you not think of things like that?

So you support what he's doing, does that mean nobody's allowed to say anything negative about him?

I also like what he does, that doesn't preclude me from thinking he's an idiot. If he just stuck to his science and tech research I'd have a lot more respect for him, like I used to many years ago, but with all this nonsense over the years my respect (and that of almost anyone, except you apparently) has eroded to the point of me thinking he should really be kept away from shoelaces, crayons and pointy scissors.

Have you actually bothered to listen to him speak much, or do you just read his Tweets? Have you listened to him on any podcasts for example?

Of the problems the human race and more importantly life on planet earth have, getting humans to Mars is way way down the list. We are already on the only planet we know of that can support life. Mars has no atmosphere, no magnetic field, no liquid water, solar is a 1/3rd weaker than it is on earth and that is when there aren't weeks long dust storms. There won't be people living on Mars in his lifetime. Maybe crewed visits but we are years and years away from that. And even if we do eventually have people living on Mars they will be totally reliant on Earth, so if Earth was hit by an asteroid they'd all be dead as well.

I'd have more respect for the guy if he did something about the problems we have on Earth rather some vanity Mars project that won't happen.

He pushed for Hyperloop that is impossible to make work so as to kill high speed rail in California as it would hurt his car sales. High speed rail that could have lowered the amount of people flying as it gives an alternative. He doesn't give a damn about the environment.

He said this
Several years ago, Musk said that public transit was “a pain in the ass” where you were surrounded by strangers, including possible serial killers, to justify his opposition.

No one should have any ambition to go to Mars because it can't be done and there so many problems, gotcha

Amazing that is what you took from that.

He listed the issues with Musk's claim that he'll be setting up a mars colony "soon", and suggested that he personally might put more effort into the problems here on earth.

Personally I'm all for space exploration, if for no other reason than it normally drives materials research and science that helps out here (the Apollo program led directly to things that have saved millions of lives, and untold billions in damages*), but Musk's vision is basically the tech bro version of what many sci-fi authors were thinking of and writing about back in the 80's**, and they had more thought to what can go wrong/how to minimise risks. Yes SpaceX has made getting into space cheaper/easier, but he's not fixed any of the other problems, many of which are at least as hard. He seems to think the hard part is getting a rocket to Mars (we could have done that in the 70's, not efficiently or cheaply but it was doable if risky) it's not, it's keeping the humans alive and fit, then supporting them once they're there and that is something you really want to work on in parallel to the rockets, so by the time you get a working rocket you've got the other bits that are needed.

*IIRC "just" the effort to make the boosters led to new ways of welding and inspecting for invisible damage that are now routine in everything from aircraft construction/maintenance to infrastructure construction.

**I've been reading books that have given a more in depth vision (backed up by science) of how humans might set up martian bases and the issues for decades.

They needed to add unless he is sat with a man that calls himself Diddums.

I don't know how he sleeps at night after losing your respect :p

Twitter is a far far better place since Elon Musk has taken over, no longer are the comments sections just filled with bots echoing the narrative of the msm.
Of course you lot won't like this(not aimed at you Mr Diddums), the majority of you jump on anyone who questions the msm narrative. You only need to look at the thread of lies to see how true this is.
Go have a look at Rishi Sunaks posts on Twitter every time he mentions that country at war, the comments section is flooded with people who are against giving them any kind of support because people see through all the lies.
This was never the case before Elon Musk took over, people got banned for saying they wanted peace, people got banned for claiming the msm was lying.
You got banned for questioning if the vaccine was safe or posting any views contrary to what Dr Fauci spewed out.
Twitter is now the opposite of what this place is where the narrative is controlled by a select few.

Where did I say that? I'm just saying the image he's selling of some Mars base is fiction, it is not going to happen. Its as much a fiction as the Moon base and space stations the public being told would happen in the 1960s early 70s.

This below is what Elon sells as his Mars base, it won't happen in Elon's lifetime. I'm a year older than him and I won't see that happen. I'm a massive supporter of space exploration, I'm a big SpaceX fan but I know its all to be taken with barrow loads of salt. We might see a permanent human presence on the Moon in the next 20 years but it will be like the ISS, a tiny crew of specialists. SpaceX I'm sure will play a part in that but the Moon is 3 days away and we can get there in an emergency in 3 days no matter what the month of the year. Mars is 9 months away and you can only do it once every 2 years. If anything mission critical happens its a death sentence, there is no rescue coming, we will maybe be able to collect the bodies.

I would like to see him put some of his considerable wealth and intellect into the Earth and its problems, rather than nonsense like The Boring Company, Hyperloop and Neurolink. Do something about real problems Elon, there are children going blind every year, there are infrastructure projects that could transform nations and help lift people out of poverty. Help women around the world take control of their reproductive cycle, nothing is better at lifting women out of poverty than that. No they aren't flashy, no they don't feed his ego, though they should, what could be better than actually helping people change their lives?

Do you know who was the first person to say you couldn't trust MSM? Joseph Goebbels, funny that it is the right wing that has embraced that message in recent years.

Yes getting banned is more difficult. Though he is certainly throwing his personal weight behind the right wing and their messaging. Its not and never will be "The source of truth" that he is selling it as.

You're in the same rabbit hutch as he is.
