The ongoing Elon Twitter saga: "insert demographic" melts down

If he does (which he won't like literally every time this argument is used) then nobody would criticise it would they?

Making electric cars and space exciting again are tangible things he's actually done (to some degree) that deserve praise even if he's overpromised regularly, but this universal nexus is a **** idea that can only result in net harm.

I suppose given Twitter is losing money and was never really very profitable anyway, the only real option is to try and create something with greater mass market appeal to create a profitable business model, and the model he's adopting is one that's already proven successful in China which is obviously a huge market. If done correctly then it could be a massive success, where as Twitter in it's current state is basically at worst losing money, and at best a break even business.

I'll be sad to see it go, but Musk owns the platform and he can do what he likes with it. There's a lot of people overreacting massively to this change.

Changing the logo would be fine, but totally rebranding? The name, the logo and the colours etc? Seems Xtreme...

I cannot see any way.
Literally ANY way that this app will be useable in the EU. Almost certainly not in the UK either.

Twitter has the best verb associated with a social media platform (to "tweet"). It's rather synonymous to it's brand.

This rebrand completely shafts it, it's retarded.

Can't tweet, can Xplode, or Xhale maybe? Or maybe Xclaimed?

I'm not surprised, Musk actually said he was going to do this two years ago he was talking about it.

In China they have this app called WeChat and what started out as a messaging platform grew into an everything platform - you can do all your shopping, all your banking, your business, order food, arrange taxis and couriers and deliveries, store your social and driver license IDs, watch videos, posts blogs, post Twitter updates, use public transport, keeps your covid/medical records, borrow money, transfer money etc and it even lets the CCP spy on you and keep track of your every move.

And while Musk was setting up his shilling Tesla factory in China they introduced him to his app and he saw how it was used to do everything- you can't even take public transport anymore without it, entry into many places also requires it - people in China are forced to use WeChat just to be able to have a job and get around. When Musk was introduced to this he absolutely loved it, it was love at first sight and saw dollar signs

And ever since he has been saying he wants to make a WeChat copy for the US and Western market, a do it all app and service that can control peoples lives

There might be enough protections in place in the US to stop him abusing such an app but in many countries there certainly aren't and what happens in such countries when the government insist they have access to all that data or it won't be allowed? Does he resist or does he fold? I think we saw what happened in Turkey recently where he didn't even attempt to fight it in their courts, he just folded like a cheap suit.

It works in a country where big business is just a thin skin over the ruling political party but unsurprisingly won’t work in free market capitalism or places with competition law.

Musk is on a hiding to nothing with this.

News at 10: Bored Billionaire does random ****.

I have no doubt Elon is a very clever guy but maybe use some of that self-proclaimed intellect to advance the human race which I believe was his original manifesto. I mean come on, the resources this man has and he's fart arsing around on a social media platform, arguing with people.

It looks like he's done it.

And it reminds me of one of the clubs in my town from the 90's, the one that had all the drug dealers and regular fights outside it and got closed down by the council after about a year.

Somehow it feels appropriate.

I'm also fairly certain i've seen a bunch of apps in the ap store with very very similar symbols (I'm trying to remember which one I used to use that looked his chosen one, i'm sure it was a wargaming related one).
