The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

I must at admit to being quite new at overclocking.
So i am looking for advice on how much further i could "safely" push my opty.

Currently its a 144 CAB2E 548 with 1.450 volts @ 311 * 9.
The Ram is GSkill ZX 3200 @ 2.5:3:3:3:8 running at DDR266

Air cooled with arctic freezer system is 36 c after 24 hours running Prime 95.

2.8 Ghz is great but the big question is what temps are ideal for long term usage ?

36C looks fine, mine idles at 40C at the moment and I'm not worried - although my freezer 64 Pro just arrived :) you should be fine. Go for 3Ghz ;)

Anyone know what the default value of the LDT/HTT multipler if my BIOS is currently set to Auto for a Opteron 148?

When i o/c i will need set this manually so will need to know if it 4 or 5.?

Just got an opteron 170 just running prime on it at 210.

At 220 on stock voltage, 1.328, it resets machine immediately.

Quick question should I let it prime for a while and then try upping speed or???

regards,

Matt

Just put a TT BigTyphoon on my 146, how quiet are these :)
Running at stock speed and volts, Priming for 2 hours, load temp is 36c, idles at 23c. They might get better once the AS has settled.

so at 210 fsb its prime stable but just an extra 10mhz will cause your pc to crash?? I would have thought it would be at least 1m pi or windows stable at 220fsb if its prime stable at 210. are you overclocking the ram at the same time? seems like a ram related problem to me.

edit: leaving it to prime wont help it overclock better it will simply tell you if your system is stable or not at that given speed, just keep overclocking it and testing its stability every bit of the way.

oh and theres no harm in giving it an extra 0.05volts, that will help no end, stock voltage is 1.35-14volts with these optys, your mb undervolts rather a lot!

Hesky,

Thanks for reply, you were spot on.

For some reason I didn't engage brain when resetting bios and removing old processor - my mem won't run any higher than 218!

Am now at 2300, 230*10 and all is well.

regards,

Matt

you can overclock quicker if you use super-pi 32m to test cpu stability and then when you are sure you cant get anymore out of the cpu at that voltage run prime, it will usually fail prime if it just about passes pi 32m so knock it back about 5mhz and it will prime all night long, providing you can keep a stable temp.

Same temps as I got initially when put Big TT on my 146 a couple weeks ago. Now running at 280 x 10 i'm still only getting 29-30c idle and 32-33 load; well worth the money.

Yeah it's looking good, I'm on a NEO2 also, although my load temps are now 44c under P95, 2.67Ghz, 1.450vcore, this is actually good, before I was having to use a lot more vcore to get 2.65-2.7Ghz, so I might be able to get beyond 2.710 Ghz stable. [CACJE]

I needed a bit extra volts initially but after couple weeks was able to drop down again; presently on 1.44.

Could go higher than 2.8 but would prefer not to use a divider and memory is bottoming out at about 2.85 and am happy with 2.8 anyhow.
