these chips are crapping out stable wise at 2.9 - 3g for a gaming system, only the ubers with no case who dont bother actually using the mhz for something useful get 3.2.

mine is at 2.6 right now with the new bios should be able to get it to 2.8 with some more tweaking and BigT, your just on a quest to have cpu-z show 3.0ghz on your screen

lol i'm only changing to a decent CPU, when I find it i'll stay put. A CABGE jus isn't satisfying enough for me, I want a real upgrade over my Skt 754.

My friend is getting some dirt cheap Gskill TCCD from the USA for £100 too which are capable of 300HTT+ at 1:1 so I may sell my OCZ for the same price seeing as it won't work in dual-channel on my DFI.

It's the command rate, also known as CPC. 1T is faster but more taxing on the memory modules and controller. 2T is slower but less stressful and usually allows memory to clock further, or be used in larger quantities.

managed to get my Cabbage to [email protected] could probably get another 50-100mhz out of it at but im loading at 55c so I will wait for my Big T.

Rich is it worth getting a CABYE 146? I mean im probably only garunteed 2.9 - 3.0 with that, I wouldnt really see that much benefit in actual games and applications would I?

Edit:

On a side note, this CABNE doesn't scale greatly with volts. At 1.65v I could only get 3.05Ghz (305 HTT) max. Not great considering I could get 3Ghz at 1.475v.

Balls to the cold bug that really sucks, might get one and if it fails under the mach buy a cheap waterblock and whack it under the chiller or something

I'm going to see if i can work around it with a higher boot up temp, but I'm not sure how successful things will be.

Apparently the cold bug is widespread on the s939 Opterons.

New beta BIOS today, so it's actually picking it up as an Opteron

Doesn't make much of a difference with clocks though. Still wants more volts to go over 2.6

Currently trying to burn it in at 1.6v, temps are ok - 44°C under P95 load.

I think I'm going to keep it though, I wont notice a few hundred MHz difference, and my GFX is the bottleneck anyway.

Really glad I bought it though, on reflection however I probably should have held out for a better stepping.

Right, I've got a pretty big update.

The two problems I was having with my Opteron under the Mach were firstly that the memory controller didn't seem to like the cold and so wouldn't let me take my RAM over around 210mhz. Secondly, the system would freeze up when unloaded (classic cold bug symptom).

So, in order to solve these the following action was taken: 1) Memory running at DDR200 :rolleyes:

, 2) I ran Stress Prime in the background on low priority to keep the CPU loaded.

Results:

1.4v (stock) - 3.1Ghz

1.5v - 3.2Ghz (no screenshot yet)

1.6v - 3.3Ghz

1.7v - 3.35 (no screenshot yet either)

Tweaking is going to continue for a long, long time while I work through this bug. I hope to get some better clocks posted in a few days.

Yeah run a few benchies with mine at just over 3Ghz, gets me around 31k in 3dMark2001 with my X850XTPE at stock, can't knock it

Mainly just playing games at very very good FPS with it though
