The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

2nd CPU seems like it should scale about the same as the previous one.

CABYE 0540FPBW - 3.00GHz (300x10) - 1.45v (in BIOS - 1.408v in CPU-Z).
DFI NF4 Ultra-D (704-2BT)
CPU MaxTCase - 61C (2C lower than the 1st CPU)
High flow top DDC/G4/Maze 4A/BIP III/Papst 1200RPM
Nasty 'Titan' thermal compound used (no point wasting the good stuff for speed binning)

You've got 5 of these? any chance of selling me one :D

Do they? whats the symptoms? the only one i've seen is yours. I'm holding off for a few days till I order one I've got a vapochill LS at home waiting for a good chip!.

The vast majority over at XS that have been put under extreme cooling (high end phase, DICE etc) have had them.

Mine would crash if it idled at below -40c. Also, I experienced problems with the memory controller at sub zero which wouldn't let me take the memory over ~205mhz.

The mem controller issue is the cause of abysmally slow Pi 1M you can see in the screenshot in my sig; memory was at 167mhz 2.5-4-4-8 (I was being lazy, so didn't tighten them). At 167mhz 2-2-2-5 I could still not break 27s 1m at 3.35Ghz (was getting 27.0xx sec). :(

got mine today, CABYE 0540FPBW :)

odd that CPUz is showing these as socket 940 ???

is anyone else having this 10x multi lockout that was experienced in the other Opteron thread? (i.e. you can only use a 9x multi... motherboard was... a DFI Lan Party Ultra D i think)

Geil 2GB RAM: Yes.

Heatsink: Personally I like the Thermalright SI-120 w. 120mm Panaflo or vantec stealth fan. Weighs half what most other heatsinks do, cools just as well very quietly, and is compatible with every motherboard going. :)

Two quick questions, Shall i buy geil 2bg value ram or spend alittle ?

Also is the stock cooler good enough or buy freezer 64 pro ?

Yes and yes.

:D

But seriously, stick with value RAM. All the power is in the CPU with the A64.

Stock cooler is pretty good - what mobo you running? If you have something serious like the DFI NF4, then it's probably worth spending a bit on the cooling, otherwise, just stick with the stock cooler, unless you want more silence of course...

Who said anything about the overclock having to be stable i thought the question was what is the highest overclock ;)
lol indeed it was only about the highest overclock... but it would be nice if it was stable ;) whats the use of having a 4GHz Opteron if it barely gets into windows :p

if you've got an Opteron in mind, GeIL Value will be fine.
since A64's aren't effected too much by dividers or timings the GeIL Value should be fine, they clock pretty easily and can reach lower timings pretty easily too. definately try and lower the CAS latency though 2.5 is a must :p
