The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

opty2.jpg

running sweet so far.

1.5v in the bios to get it stable at 3ghz. ram is on 200mhz, 2gb of it.

Quick question - what's the difference between the two Opteron threads we have going right now? They both talk about overclocking, so what gives?

I'm just finding it hard to know which one I'm in etc!

Not looking great for the CAB2E at initial glance... booted at 2.8ghz at 1.45v and got a reboot. Upped it to 1.5v and Super PI 1MB fails instantly. It could be a number of things need tweaking though so don't despair...

I'll increase the voltage and see where I get stable at... man this hangover is killing me though, my head is splitting. Not a good time for concentrating.

But how many 2gb dual chan kits can do cas 2.5 at like > 250fsb ? :(

lol indeed it was only about the highest overclock... but it would be nice if it was stable ;) whats the use of having a 4GHz Opteron if it barely gets into windows :p

if you've got an Opteron in mind, GeIL Value will be fine.
since A64's aren't effected too much by dividers or timings the GeIL Value should be fine, they clock pretty easily and can reach lower timings pretty easily too. definately try and lower the CAS latency though 2.5 is a must :p

mmm. Hitting 50 degrees c at full load. Just trying to burn this in at 2.6gig. 146 CABYE 0540FPBW

Wonder if it's worth reseating my Xp-120? What should the stock volts be, please?

I've given up with conservative voltage on my CAB2E.

Priming @ 2.95 Ghz now (9 x 328), with 1.7v @ 41'C load.

nice, although i think 1.7 would be too high for my watercooling :(

does having a clean block help with temps? My block was pretty dirty when i last put it on. What's the best way to clean one?

Dunno.

I tend to clean the CPU and the WB every time I install a CPU / reinstall a CPU.

I wipe the AS5 off, then use Isopropyl to get the rest of the gunk off. The main thing with my good temps is the pressure of my WC system, combined with the NexXxos XP which loves pressure and the coresponding flow rates, and the HUGE rad I'm using.

I'm actually using a new thermal compound which is really liquid metal. Speaking to Surge about it (he's a Chemistry buff), it's most likely a blend of two rare-ish metals (gallium and indium). It's really weird stuff - looks like Mercury. It also dissolves aluminium, so the product warns NOT to be used with Alu sinks. (Here's hoping the IHS isn't Alu, huh? ;)) It costs about the same as AS5, but you get less. It's called 'Cool Laboratory Liquid Pro' and should be available at your friendly local online auction. Can't say if it's better than AS5 and can't be bothered to do a side-by-side test, but they say it's better and it was worth a shot.

Drawback is, I suspect it's VERY conductive
