Ok, here's my 2p worth. Ive been away for a few months so just feeling my way back into things. Was all set to get me another winchester or a venice when I spotted the fuss about these opterons :)

Anyways, got me a 144 cos the 146 was OOS and wanted to get everything from one place.

Currently running at 260x9, with the bios set to 1.475v and it being reported as 1.44v. Got chipset and LDT volts set to .1v above stock too. 260 runs prime for a couple of hours fine, going to leave it going overnight too. Pushing the CPU any higher results in superpi 1m errors, so not bothered priming.

Not sure why I'm struggling tbh, temps are **** 47c loaded, Ive had the voltage to 1.5 (1.47ish reported) but it's no more stable. Am I just being stingy with the voltage? I'm wondering if these people who reckon they're doing 300fsb on stock volts are actually stable.....

Input greatly appreciated guys :)

Cheers

didnt put enough paste on and the CPU stuck to the heatsink and bent the pins when i tried to take it out. It doesnt seem to be doing very much now. :(

It should still work. All you have to do is take your time and look at all the rows for bent pins and straighten them out.

Even if it goes in the socket ok it still may not boot if a pin is slightly bent. Yet, it sitll should work. Just take a realy close look at all the pins. :)

Questions?

What motherboard? Memory?
Is the memory running 1:1?

Wow unlucky... when I had my watercooling kit I used to put the block on tight and when I took it off it used to do all but rip the CPU out of the socket... the AS5 made it stick like glue.

Sorry to hear that man. :(

im on my third and hopefully final opteron :D

first i bought a 148 CABYE 0540 and could only get it stable at 2.9, pfft waste of money.

then thought id save money and get a 144 CAB2E as people seemed to be getting 2.8, but it came and never performed, im running at 2.8 now but fails ALL stability tests (yet stays in BF2 all night).

now ive bought a tried and tested 146 CABYE FPAW off a very nice member! 3.0Ghz at stock volts, burning it in for me now and sending it special delivery tommorow. How addictive is this!

I mean how gutted are people who bought 3700 san diegos and fx57's? Theyre both awesome processors but anyone with a 146 CABYE now must be over the moon

Just thought i needed to post that to add my say on this whole thing.

OH yeh, anyone got a 146 CABYE stable at 3.1 on air?
