The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

Hi Guys,

Got the computer built now and have been checking some overclocking. Max stable at stock vols has been 2.5GHz. I can get 2.6 stable at 1.45V, am working in windows at the moment at 2.7, but this fails prime 95 after 1 minute.

There maybe more, but I am struggling with setting the RAM correctly on my motherboard (Asus A8N SLI deluxe, Geil Value 1GB dual channel kit).

I going to try and lower the multiplier now and up the HTT to see if I can get the RAM running nearer to its DDR400 rating (only runs at approx DDR350 when at 2.6g).

Cheers

Joust

thanks for the reply joust , i have exactly the same stepping coming on friday . to be honest i was hopeing for a little better on stock volts , i will post my results early next week

Kesnel,

Dam man some awsome results dude. Exactly the sort of OC that we all wish for. Sorry if i missed it but what stepping is that with again. :D

Thanks for the comments guys.

The stepping is CABNE 0530APMW, one of the early ones that I managed to snatch away from the states. I was very lucky to get my hands on one of these at the time, luckily back then the Opteron craze had not reached its height. ;)

I hope to bring more results within the next few days, although I have uni exams looming so it may not be until next week. I also need a decent graphics card before I can see about getting some decent 3Dmark scores as I’m currently using a 64mb PCI card.

Firstly, hat's off to Kesnel superb results, kinda puts the rest of my post into perspective!

Started to push on with the o/c tonight after removing the opty IHS last night and fitting the Akasa evo120.

As Tatts suggested the cpu still needs the same higher voltages to reach higher clocks but with much lower temps than before which means the o/c's are now stable, which is exactly the result I was looking for with the changes. I really can not praise this Akasa cooler highly enough, it is superb. I am still pushing on with the o/cing as 3ghz is now 35 mins into sp2004 with a temp of 48c @ 1.612v (bios). Once it goes past 52c I will stop pushing until I get agood water cooling setup. Posted below super pi times @ 3ghz except the 32mb (2900mhz) which I have not yet had time to run @3ghz as I wanted to get prime underway.

The 1.728v looks a bit extreme but it's a fantastic result though.

The bios reads 1.75v, so it's more likely to be around 1.75v/1.76v actual. I'm using phase though so it's acceptable. Temps are around -11c idle and 5-6c on load, so it's getting really toasty. I'd probably be able to stay sub zero if I was gased with r507, but I've still got stock r404 in my Mach II.
