The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

Well I've finally had the chance to upgrade the main computer with the Opteron 164 I ordered over a month ago.

A nice surprise - it's a CABYE 0540 FPBW
I've coupled it with 1gb of Geil ONE tccd and an artic freezer 64 pro.

Preliminery o'cing results look quite good. It's sat happily Priming at 2.8ghz, stock volts, with the ram at 233 2,3,3,6 1T. I'll try slacking off the timings and go for 3ghz later this evening.

Bargain, how long's it been priming?

Just a question on the Freezer. What m/board are you running? Ive just installed the freezer on my NF4 Ultra-D and it's slightly pushing one of the sticks of ram to the side !

i appear to be having toubles.

i got a clock of 2.7Ghz the other night, cant remeber all the votages etc, it ran fine in all games i played, except Age of Empires 3 the CPU reset, and in the BIOS it said that the CPU was about 65c, whereas in Speedfan it was only about 45c.

Also, I cant boot in anything above about 280,

ATM i have 250x10 with vcore on 1.45. i ran Prime only for about 10 mins, and OCCT 30 min test was fine, 3d mark 05 is fine, and in BIOS temps say 51c after all this, and in speedfan it still only said about 43c

what temperature should i believe?

I'd go on the BIOS. Sounds to me like speedfan is reporting either the chipset or PWM temp.

Only a couple of hours so far but its been doing some superPi 32mb and 8mb test without a hitch. The big test is an hour or so on Battlefield2!

The m/board is an old Abit av8 which its fits perfectly, no issues at all. I think the board will be the weakest link in the chain though. I'm not sure whether it'll handle 3gigs but I'm certainly going to give it a try!

I'll put up some screenies of the install and cpu-z/superpi later on.

I used to have an AV8, but that would only do 240Mhz HTT. Could have been the winchester/newcastle I used with it though.

I picked up my mates 146 today :)
I got a CABYE 0543 ,I'm hoping its a reasonable stepping ,at least it isn't a CABGE ;)
How have the CABYE's faired ?
Won't be able to test it for a little while as I'm waiting for more cash from my mate for the mbrd etc :(

Inccidently they showed me a tray of OEM CPUs he had for some servers he was building ,they were 0545 dated ,I think that might be the latest around? (they were CABNE btw).

146 cabye 0540 FPMW image shows temps at just 2800mhz. Best compromise without better cooling is 2900mhz for 24/7 with load at 57c.

This one will boot into windows @ 3080 but not 32mb pi stable and sp2004 small fft fails after 30 secs. Mainly I believe due to temps. The IHS has to come off .

Can anyone suggest an air cooler with similar performance to the xp120 but with a smaller base (so as not to foul the cpu socket plastic surround) and which has a screw down mounting to prevent damage to the core?

Anyone gone down this road?

Water may well have to be the next step but this kind of negates the bang per buck element of the opty!

Agree completely, I was hoping to auction my 2840mhz A64 4000+ and the two 6600gt's to pay for a 7800gt as my next upgrade. Water would have come after that.

I guess nobody ever said life was fair!

That is very hot. My 146 FPMW does 3GHz 1.5v with load temp of 50.C (OCCT produces a lower load temp).
Yes, my 4000+ will run 2840 @1.568 (1.425*110%) with sp2004 small fft's @ 52c. Which is why I am looking to remove the IHS on the Opty. I just can't do it with the xp120.
