The Opteron Skt 939 Overclocking thread !!!!

im a newbie to overlcocking but can i ask how exactly do u no if your system is sunstable , do i run testes liekt eh stress test in prime etc and then what am i looking for and how long should i test for? 1 other thign how do i unlock the multiplyer feature and is thsi essential.

Google for Prime95 version 24.14, this is a great tool to test stability. Then run a Torture Test on small FFTs, or Customise it to 8 - 4096 and leave the other settings. How long.. depends how stable you'd like your system to be. 12 hours is probably enough for most, but 24 hours would be very nice.

Whatever CPU you have, eg. Opteron 144 (9x mutli) or Opteron 146 (10x multi) you can only use that multplier or the ones below it, ie. for the Opteron 144 you have 9, 8, 7 etc. The ones above are unavailable, and can only be had with the likes of FX chips (unless yours magically unlocks, the changes of this are remote and it seems to be random until further investigations). In order to up the clock speed, you will need to increase the FSB (which is 200 at default). So, Opteron 144 is 9x200 = 1.8GHz.

Just stop the test, it will give a little summary. You can always take a screenshot when running, then one when stopped if you are unsure. Make sure to open up a CPU-Z window to verify the CPUs speeds when taking the screenshot.

erm i just changed from 220 mhz to 230 and when i tried retsrating windows it crashed it saying there was a sofware error and mentioned sumthign about a dll.Opps nobo overclocker having problems already.

oopps gettin worse i was playgin cod2 and it just crashed for no reason saying.

BCCode : 1000007f BCP1 : 00000008 BCP2 : 80042000 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

any1 at all have a clue

after looking through lots of other scores on the GFX card forum it seems my scores are a it low. People with witih similiar CPU's & last gen GPU getting faster speeds

What RAM have you got, and what settings are using for the RAM. I find it hard to believe it won't boot at 10*230 on stock volts, even bad steppings do this.

hi,

what have you got the HTT setting on ?, try setting it to 3 if its on auto, also check the memory divider and start at 133 to see if that helps.

I have the geil 2 gig value ram , the multiplyer is on auto which i assume with the 146 is 10 but i cant change this as the function to do thsi isnt unlocked. I also didint chnage any aspect of the memory just left it on the default, hope thats not wrong. But it seemed unstable when increased the speed of the cpu.

As mp has said, you need to change the HHT, it should be 5 by default and you should lower this to 4 when overclocking up to 250FSB and then lower it again to 3 when going above 250FSB. The HHT x FSB shouldn't go above 1000 otherwise you will have problems.

Try running your memory on a divider, e.g. 166 and see if you can get it to boot properly.

It only did it once and it seems fine now, i havent ever overclcocked b4 so all new to me.. When i start up bios which section is the hht tab in , im running an epox board .sorry for all the qwuestions i jsut want to get it right. Thanks for the help mat

I'm not too sure on this, but I've quickly googled for some BIOS screenshots of your board and hopefully have been able to piece enough stuff together. Try these (I hope they are correct)

CPU Clock Ratio: This should be on "Auto" or 10, set it to 10. This is the multiplier.

CPU Ratio Control: This I think it what DFI folk will refer to as the LDT/FSB Frequency Ratio. This should be set to "Auto" and should allow settings from 1-5, if this is correct, set it to 3.

I couldn't find any screenshots of the RAM settings, but if you see one in the "DRAM Configuration" (or similar) called "DRAM Frequency Set (Mhz)" (or similar) it might be set to "Auto" but options should look something like "200 (DRAM/FSB 1:01)", try the 166 setting.

whats the most anyone on here has squeezed from a Opty on Air?

Currently a 146 going on Ebay for £270  Anyone on here?
