AMD Denies Phase Out of Opteron Chips for Socket 939

Advanced Micro Devices denied on Tuesday rumours spread by a web-site regarding cancellation of production of AMD Opteron processors for servers and workstation designed for desktop-oriented 939-pin infrastructure. The company said it would continue to ship the chips for uni-processor (UP) business machines for more than a year from the time speaking.

“Socket 939 AMD Opteron 100 Series processors are in production. AMD will continue to produce Opteron 100 Series processors with ECC unbuffered memory support in 2006, and we will adjust production volumes as needed to supply our server and workstation customers,” said Brett Jacobs, a spokesman for AMD.

Ok a little off subject here but WOW this has got to be the longest thread in the world! it would take days to read. sorry had to be said. Could someone please summarise this for me cos i cant read all 60 pages

And its not the only one of that sortof scale :)

Dam i still cant run prime95, ive clcocked it at 2.5, got cpu voltage high, ram, chipset, LDT up. and only do about 6mins ? this is really ******* me off :(

I am the same, I can run everything else fine but unable to run Prime. Usually stops anywhere between 3mins to 1 hour with an error like "got 0.5 was expecting 0.4". Got my Opty 146 @ 2700 & have also upped the volts on mobo, ram & cpu, have all the ram settings on Auto.

A) don't swear they're very strict on that here.

B) Loosen memory timings? Is voltage TOO high? If not then you may have a very dud CPU. What's your PSU like?

Prime fails on my oppy after a couple of minutes when ive got it over 2.8ghz with the ram on a 166 divider but its fine if i put the ram on a 133 using the same volts so give that a shot if u havnt already, i have only upped the volts by +0.075 on the cpu so its around 1.55v's now and all seems nice n stable, although quite hot :(

Penfold, come cry with me - my Opteron CAB2E FPMW 0540 only does 2510mhz :( I tried everything, lowering timings, run at 100mhz divider but it seems strange, at stock the CPU is stable and passes Prime etc. fine up to 280 HTT then above that it goes haywire, failing all the time.

Any chance this could be down to overheating chipset? or motherboard limitation?

god damn, im definately getting a 146 instead of a 3000 veny now! only problem is, its out of stock everywhere! Ive managed to find a site doing the 146's for £118! do you think its cheap because its a crap stepping?

It's possible - you may get lucky with it (I'd say risk it, if it turns out rubbish flog it on a certain known Auction Site :p)

play with Max Async Latency (MAL) and Read Premable (RP), after 4 Opty, I found out its the key to OC :D

for example, my 144 with MAL = 9ns, RP = 7 can't prime at 1.58v but with MAL = 8ns, RP = 5ns, it runs Prime no problems at just 1.53v ;)

Vader sell it and buy a 146... it's all you can do. :(

:) Yeah - might do, although I'm still unsure as to the limit of my motherboard and PSU atm - so not sure how sensible getting a new one will be.

Knowing my luck the mobo will hold me back somewhat, wish I could afford a new NF4 :( but its annoying having to buy a PCI=E :(

Do you mean setting these more aggressively gave you stability? Or did you get that the wrong way round...?

Cos on the DFI Street overclocking guide it says:

The Max Async Latency setting will show its biggest difference in the Everest Latency Test. Going from 8ns to 7ns on my BH-6 made a 1ns difference in Everest Latency. Going from 7ns to 6ns dropped it another 2ns.

Suggested Settings for DFI: 7ns is the default----Suggest you start at 7ns and work from there trying 5.0-10.0. From HiJon89: “6ns is very tight, I would recommend running 6ns for UTT or BH-5 but not TCCD. 7ns is looser, good for getting higher clocks on UTT or BH-5. 8ns is pretty loose for UTT or BH-5, but its just right for hitting DDR600 with TCCD. 9ns is very loose even for TCCD and should really only be used to try to hit DDR640+.” (Lower = Faster)

Also I was only able to get my Oppy stable by using a MAL of 9ns :(

Tha Asrock accepts both AGP and PCI-E?

Ive got the dfi expert board, the chipset does get a little hot
