*** The OS X Lion Thread ***

Its completely 64 bit and has removed all legacy code from the PPC days I though which was why the install is so small.

No she scrolled by pressing the buttons (the up/down ones) and has done so for the past 4 years. She will get used to the change it just may take some time, bless her.

Oh and she isn't a grandma (yet!) :p

My post was in jest and hope it wasn't taken any other way! :p

The power is in the four finger thumb pinch gesture to access it. Just because you don't use spot light doesn't mean you are a 'casual' user. Same as, just because you don't use a terminal to launch your favourite text editor, doesn't make you any less of a shell scripting programmer..

Pffff casuals ruining our OS....you use magnification on the dock right?

Why would i swipe my hand down on my trackpad when i can use spotlight much faster and easier?

If you're a power or long time user of OS X you will never use launchpad. Command + spacebar and type what you need in a perfectly indexed lighting fast system is ultimately far superior.

What's the story with TRIM on Lion guys?

Is it like 10.6.8 in that it's only for Apple drives and you need to do a hack for all the OCZ/Intel/etc drives? Or have they changed it to do TRIM for all drives?

Lack of PPC and 32-bit (AFAIK?) code I would imagine, would cut down a lot on excess code libraries that are no longer needed.

Its enabled but not for all drives so its a bit hit and miss atm.

Damn loving Lion :)

Full screen apps are great! I love mission control, I no longer need my spaces/expose, the scrolling will take some getting used to though.

Overall a very solid release, had zero issues with the upgrade :)

Anyone had any issues installing this fresh from a dvd?
I burnt it to a disc, rebooted, it takes about 5 minutes to launch the setup, and i click fresh install. It says it needs to download components, not sure if its actually downloading or just copying from the disc, it gets to about 5 minutes remaining then appears to freeze, the timer then gradually goes up from 5 mins and i gave up when it went to 15 minutes? Im wondering if I have burnt a bad copy or something?

Maybe you need to leave it a while if it hasn't crashed/KP'd. Installing from DVD is painfully slow and the installer is pretty crap at estimating install time.

However I did fresh installs on a MBP and 2 iMacs from a USB with no problems at all.

Can someone try going to the 'Fonts and Colours' tab in Mail preferences and try changing one of the fonts. Doesn't seem to work for me.
