*** The OS X Lion Thread ***

Having an absolute nightmare trying to clone my BootCamp partition from my old HDD after upgrading, mainly down to WinClone not being compatible with Lion.

All I want to be able to do is clone the partition from my USB HDD onto my newly-created BootCamp partition and boot up as if nothing happened :(

Spend a few hours doing a full install, re-do bootcamp partitions and get it installed again. It feels so much better on a fresh install.

Windows 7 feels bloody lovely on these Macbook Airs. Not as good as osx though ;)

I think I might do. There was nothing that critically relied on keeping the old install intact, it's just that VS 2010 takes about 5 years to install lol

Hurrah. I've liberated my old Windows XP install from Bootcamp, so I can now run it entirely from a VM image, without worrying about NTFS drivers or any of that. Time machine is now backing up the 40GB image... That could get interesting if it's going to back that up every time it changes.

I love the new Mail layout btw.

I am a new user to lion and I bloody love it. Much better than Windows 7.

I myself am making the move from Win7 to Lion, but I do find that there are things that really worked in Win7, for example Win7 has snap to edges and auto expanding windows when you drag it to the edges of the screen, from messing around on Lion this ability doesn't seem to exist.

Just installed Lion on my new iMAC and I must say I really like it. No issues upgrading, which is nice. Worthy upgrade for the money with some nice features.

Just done a clean install of Lion having done the SL upgrade previously. Much nippier now, and startup/shutdown times are back to normal. Don't know whether that's down to the clean install, or just getting rid of the remnants of old junk though. Either way, I'm happier :p

Anybody know how to force Safari to open in full screen mode?

Whenever I close a window a new one always starts in a new un-full screen window and it's annoying!

Anyone else's mac run a hell of a lot hotter since lion?

It's been a tad taxing to the point that my old MacBook Pro that i reflowed the solder on has given up the ghost again and won't boot anymore. Just hang on loading the OpenGL part of the OS on boot.

Will need to crack it open and take a heat gun to it again. :(

My "newer" late 2008 still runs hotter too.
I run Lion on a 2008 unibody macbook and the CPU temps are at a constant 63c idling. The entire chassis is very warm after a few minutes of booting. In SL the idle temps were 48-50c. This very issue means I may go back to SL :/

My unibody MBP is also (subjectively) running hotter but it has been pretty warm these past few days.

Still exploring Lion... it's ok but I'd be annoyed if I'd paid £100+ for it and I don't like some of the UI changes. Plus the image wouldn't fit on my 4GB USB stick for some reason so I've had to do an in-place upgrade which I didn't want to do.

Still, good value at £21. It's worth that just to keep getting security updates for the next few years.

Iv had that really badly over the last week, to the point the where iv caused a few auto too hot shut downs :(

Think the os has been designed for faster macs so my old one needs to do more work to keep running...

You should never have auto shutdowns because of heat.

If it has then there is something wrong with your Mac, not Lion.

Currently 5-10% CPU load at ~50C @ 2000RPM - 2010 2.4Ghz 15" MBP, which is about the same as SL.

Safari, Mail, iChat open - new install on a 80Gb Intel SSD.

Lion is much nicer to use on my MBP than the iMac. Which I put down to the gestures being easier with the trackpad. Looks like I'm going to have to invest in one for the iMac.

Yeah my mac is on the way out massively, 2 logic board replacements in the last year has been the hint (well one was me spilling water on it but the second time was pure heat problems) but Lion has amplified other wise seen problems :(

Do like Lion though so I'm going to ride it out till it dies and then get a new new one (really want an air of sorts and if this 15" air comes about I'm going STRAIGHT for it)

Does anyone know how to disable "Secure Virtual Memory" in lion. I always had this disabled in every previous version of OS X due to the large overhead it sometimes uses. It stopped some stuttering in games too.

Trying to find a terminal command to turn it off as it's on by default in lion.

Code:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.virtualMemory\UseEncryptedSwap -bool no

Pro! Thanks a million!

My laptop never leaves the home or is left un-attended so no real use for me to have that on.
