****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

I'm not so confident that they will make it smaller again. Never been done iwth a home console before. I'd imagine there are lot of setup costs when redesigning a console that they will want to avoid.

i think the new ps3 is a bit disappointing, They probably should have put the psu separate and/or waited a little loner until they could shrink it a bit more. Only reason to get this would be if they added ps2 support. I also wish they would square it off, get rid of the curved top.

edit: ok so I thought about it and I guess they did make a 3rd version of the NES and megadrive but they were so far into their lives that they are largely irrelavnt

You can get them, mine has a BRAVIA Sync bit on the remote with all of the buttons on. Must just be on the newer sets?
I see, I still have a 2 year old 40W2000 with the most basic remote possible, I expected a bit fancier remote included with a 2000 euro LCD but Sony decided to save a few euro :(

Anyway, not a big issue.

An external PSU would put me off it all together. Dealing with the Wii PSU under my tv annoys me enough.

I think Sony just need to get the slim out there to try and catch up in sells and finally maybe make a profit.

Had it looked nice I'd of possibly be swayed to getting the new model, as it is I much prefer the looks of the original

60GB > 80GB > Slim IMO

60gb has shiny chrome bits whereas the 80gb doesn't.

Hardly much of a difference.

Am I the only one in thinking that it looks really really cheap?

Like some ebay chinese knock off

I think its the Matte finish that makes it look kinda tacky. If it was all shiny, it would look cooler. Someone should photoshop the slim being all shiny.

It's thinner and narrower but it's also deeper.. which is a bit annoying.

First thing I thought when I saw the pics was "did it really need all these console comparisons?" :D

The original 60GB has 4 USB ports, a multi card reader, oh and backwards compatibilty.

What does HDD size have to do with the design? 60gb and 80gb are the same design.

What Meths said, and regardless of whether or not you think it makes a difference it's my opinion that chrome lettering and CD tray do make an improved difference in design over the later 80GB version

Aparently the cell chip in the slim is a smaller die so uses less power and produces less heat. Performance increase is unknown but I'd assume it's more or less as before.

I'd like to say outright "No" but in honesty I'm still undecided.

I have a 60GB launch day PS3 and I'll be building a house soon so I can't see it being a priority, but then I'm looking to save money.

Trading it for a more eco model (Slim) might tempt me in the future.

£249 is the RPP, surely there's websites doing deals or bundles on the pre-order to make it more enticing?

I'll deffo be getting one, the 'upgrade' from my 80GB SKU will work out a lot less expensive in the long run with the reduced electric bills I'll get from the lower power usage. I was just waiting for confirmation of the HDD upgradability.

As long as I can get over £150 for my current one, I'll be happy to pay the extra for a new model.
