The Police Application Thread

It's a sad reflection of the current state of things hilly. Most police forces are facing serious budgetary shortfalls and recruitment is the first thing that is hit.

Absolutely.

It might be March, but they don't know if it's going ahead or not, it might be 2011... We shall see. Currently buying a house, so I'm happy where I am for the time being. I'd rather start sooner than later though! :)

A visit to their website usually indicates if they are recruiting or not.

It doesnt say about future plans though, i know there recruiting for specials but i was wondering about plans for the regulars. I may phone them :)

Also doi need a full driving license for the specials and does being at uni make any difference? though isnt Burnsy at uni too?

Good luck to those wanting to, or currently applying.

I've been in the job just over a year now, and am waiting to take my Level 2 (public order) course and my basic driving course (can't wait for IRV course!).

It's a fantastic job and you never know what's in store for you when you parade every morning.

Was wondering if anyone could recommend me some decent but not expensive boots? I understand you are not allowed steel capped is this true? I would ideally like to spend around £50 if possible. Thanks!

The other half starts on Monday and was told 'no steel toecaps'. She bought some magnums and was told to bull them up for day and she'll need to do it for drills. She's tried, I've tried, but could do better. Any tips? Unless this is a wind up for newbies.

Can't beat the army when it comes to bulling: http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/Bulling_boots

Got my "pre and induction training" course on Saturday 9th, whatever that means.

Then medical and fitness on the 14th and 15th. Just waiting for my GP to sign off my medical history questionnaire and then it's on!

Looks like Leicester is the only force thats cancelled recruitment for 2010 then due to "cut-backs in public spending"?

I had a start date as a CSO for feb but recieved a letter early December saying it had been cancelled (despite being put back from Nov, and previously Sept) and they wouldnt be keeping any records. Basically back to square one!

Had to take time off for the medicals and eye tests etc. Just been a big waste of my time.

Feel for you mate, unfortunately the same happened to me with the HM Prison Service, although to be fair their recruitment was horrid and poorly handled. Keep your chin up and apply again. At least if you do apply again you know what to expect.

I bought some SWAT Win X2 boots from Gladstone boots and I love them so far :). We were also told no steel toe caps.

We were never told to bull our boots though, and why is she doing drill?
