The Police Application Thread

I am surprised at the toe caps ban in terms of health and safety.

I would hate to drop a 20kg enforcer on my foot without steel caps on them.

Public order boots are an absolute steel cap must also.

I bought some SWAT Win X2 boots from Gladstone boots and I love them so far :). We were also told no steel toe caps.

We were never told to bull our boots though, and why is she doing drill?

Apparently they've recently re-introduced drills into the initial training here.

Also she says if protective footwear is needed they are provided with it.

Got my Magnums from patrolstore.com today, excellent service. Would highly recommend them! Only ordered on thurs evening and considering the weather they got here pretty quickly!

Hey guys, just looking at some watches as I need a new one and wouldn't mind one to wear when I'm walking around on the streets, can anyone recommend me one? Looked at G-Shock online but don't want a watch that is bulky, would prefer one with an LCD screen. Cheers!

Just sent and email to kent police asking for an application pack for the special constabulary. hopefully i will have a reply from them soon

Aye, we're not allowed to wear them unless it's Level 2 uniform in which case you get them issued IIRC.

Passed the fitness and medical, just a drugs test now.

Question: Did any of you new recruits have to do a pre induction course?

I'm currently sitting a 4 week course that involves an exam and a 1200 word essay :/

Good to see this thread still active and so many people interested in joining, im just coming towards the end of my two year probation, final exams next month eeeeek! and i've loved every (well almost) minute of it. Each day brings something new and there is so much to learn and such a huge scope with regards to the different roles you can go into.

I've had the opportunity to do a secondment to an anti disorder team which i've been doing for the past 4 months and its bloody fantastic, one my probation is done i'm putting myself forward for a full public order course and with a few more years service under my belt i'd like to go the firearms route.

Good luck for all the folk currently going through the recruitment process, it can be a long and frustrating process but stick with it, i was near enough 2.5 years getting through mine. Been more than worth the wait though, and just wait till you are out on your first shift kitted up, what a weird feeling :D

Out of interest, how long does it take from acceptance to your first shift?

I guess is varies hugely from force to force and depending on recruitment circumstances at the time of applying. For me after sending my initial application and the exams, interviews and fitness tests i was around 2.5 years, after passing my final fitness I was given a start date at Tulliallan (scottish police college) which was another 15 weeks. A couple of weeks or so after that I had my first shift, so not that far off 3 years :O

I was just unlucky when i applied recruitment was very slow, people that applied soon after me got through the whole process in less than 6 months, but heyho, I got there.

To save me making a thread ill ask on this topic.

Well I am 18 years old and am studying Media studies & Travel and Tourism at my local college (Alevels)

I want to join the police force. Not really uniform, more behind the scenes

There is this course near me that has a public services course, it is a foundation degree and is 3 years long, and in the 3rd year you get the chance to finish it at uni.

I dont know wether to do this course or... _____

I just dont know.

I finish college in 3 months and would like to take a gap year..?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

How do you mean 'behind the scenes' exactly?

CID, surveillance, CAD operator, forensics?
