The Police Application Thread

Yh.. do I need to apply thou? because I dont want to take a year out.. then apply and I cant for like another 6 months

thanks

Seriously, i'd forget the police for now. Take the gap year and enjoy it. Meet people, experience life and....i'm not trying to sound patronising at all... but "grow up".

Don't bother with the public services course unless you like having a pointless degree and a £25k+ debt.

As said, don't bother with any college/uni courses unless the force you're applying to wants you to have a certain qualification (AFAIK, only Surrey police are doing this at the moment, though apparently there are plans to introduce it to other forces).

And as CID, again as said you need to finish your probationary period as a constable and obtain 'evidence' of the way you've handled investigations in the past.

Personally, I wouldn't like to be in primary CID as they're stuck behind desks for a good part of the day. The exceptions perhaps being Crime Squad and Robbery Squad as they're quite pro-active and execute dockets.

Or CIDon't as I call them.

Hehe, I know what you mean, though they've taken some pretty griefy stuff off my hands before so I can't complain.

Oh, I should probably update this. I got in, I passed everything.

But I now have to wait for a start date, which I am told could take 18 months!!

Epic. I'm just waiting for my vetting and drugs test results

They've given us a March in-take date so hopefully it won't entail such a long wait.

if it does

what will you do in that 18 months?

serious question

I am relatively happy in my current job, so I'll stay here, and I would be surprised if I was anywhere else in 18 months time.

I am going to put the Police right to the back of my mind now as all the thinking about how long it is taking is doing my head in. I need to get on with my life and then one day I will get a very interesting letter :)

You won't be able to forget about it altogether SS. It will be in the back of your mind, when the Bill comes on you'll think about it, when you see a copper or a cop car, you'll think about it.

Best way though is to just carry on as normal.

Welcome to my world! ;) I think it's about three years now that my application has been on going. I passed my force Vetting in November 2008.
