The Police Application Thread

I am at college at mom.. A Levels..

when I finish in June I want to take a gap year

Can I apply for the force this year...?

or not?

and what can I do to gain experience etc...??

I thought i'd post just because i'm a huge fan on the police.
Step-dad is in a pro-active squad, and everytime i'm back on the mainland, he arranges "police observer" days - ie. I have to wear a police observer jacket, but get to go out for a shift with some PCs. Best days i've ever had - one with a fast response vehicle, and another on a drugs raid.

Awesome

I'm jealous, i'd quite happily go on them every day and not get paid. Have that as a job. It's a huge adrenaline rush being in the car when you're chasing a stolen car, handbraking around corners etc.!

Just sent and email to kent police asking for an application pack for the special constabulary. hopefully i will have a reply from them soon

Keep us updated on that. I'm thinking about possibly sending an application to join Kent Special Constabulary soon.

I have my first observer shift on sat :)

Let us know how you get on. How did you manage to go on an observer shift?
I don't think Kent police allow it unfortunately. :(

All application forms are on the kent police website, download them, print and fill them out from there :)

Do they not need to sort out like insurnace and loads of paper work to be able to let you come along?

You'd be in for a shock mate.

Police driving is scrutinised more than ever now and if you were to use a handbrake around corners you would be chastised massively and I mean up for careless / dangerous driving not to mention a visit from Professional Standards for disciplinary action.

Nice. How many people were there?
Do you know how long the whole recruitment process usually takes?
