The Police Application Thread

I've also just applied to join as a special constable in the met. By the sounds of it it's a very good experience and that you are actually useful, just wish it wouldn't take so long to hear between stages.

I have been looking into the special constable positions also, would a very successful special constable have a decent chance of becoming a paid officer eventually? Seems like fantastic experience anyway. :)

Yes, probably one of the best things you can have on your CV to be honest.

I have been working as Police staff for just over 3 years now. Pay isn't brilliant but the avenues to explore once you are in are like nothing else. It's a real career job.

I was dreading this thread resurfacing. Just to add my story...

Passed PIRT
Passed Assessment Centre
Passed Medical
Passed Fitness
Passed Drugs Test
Passed Induction coursework (4 week course)
Failed Vetting

When asked why, they wouldn't say because of Data Protection

I wrote an appeal letter as I meet the home office recruitment criteria - no criminal record, no debt, no family history etc. Nothing.

Anyway, they responded a week later saying they cannot disclose the reasons and they "consider this the final correspondence". Oh and I am not eligible to reapply. Ever.

Now, my grandfather served in the SAS, which I didn't declare but that's the only thing I didn't declare on the security vetting form. Why bother? He doesn't live with us anymore.

Seriously messed up

Thats very bizarre cant you apply under a subject access request to get everything they have on you?

That is a bit bizarre. Surely they must be able to tell due, ironically, due to the DPA?

Apparently they only refuse to tell you, like this, if what you have done involves another person. If it was because you were arrested for drink driving or w/e, and you forgot to mention this, they could tell you that this is the reason you failed.

However, if you were rejected because your uncle was Osama Bin Laden or something, then they wouldn't be able to tell you.

EDIT: Oh and sorry to hear thie EVH, feel gutted for you. If you were really curious, i'd start digging into your family, rather than yourself.

Bit of an udpate as to where I am for you;

Although being fully accepted into the West Mercia Police Force in November 2008, we have all been told that there is now another step as due to cut backs etc they have too many recruits and need to whittle some down. Which I'm not too happy about really - bloody Government.

So, I was due for my interview at the end of April and if I got through I was due to start within the next year (only 45 people admitted this year, not even enough to cover leavers!).

Unfortunately, my application is now onhold, as I ruptured my ACL two weeks back, so I'm in no position to be able to join in my current state. I have to phone back in Autumn to arrange an interview.

feels like it's never going to happen now. Bit narked if I'm honest!

That's nothing bud.

You should hear what my force have just told me

That's what annoyed me.

All my immediate family (and anyone who's ever been registered at this address) are clean as a whistle. That is what I wrote in my appeal letter.

As for my auntie's dog's second brother's cousin. Who knows.

I've spoken to a family friend who's an inspector and he said because of cut backs the force is looking for any reason to cut applicants. I also know there was only space for 40 candidates, where 50 were at the induction course :/
