The Police Application Thread

I was dreading this thread resurfacing. Just to add my story...

Passed PIRT
Passed Assessment Centre
Passed Medical
Passed Fitness
Passed Drugs Test
Passed Induction coursework (4 week course)
Failed Vetting

When asked why, they wouldn't say because of Data Protection

I wrote an appeal letter as I meet the home office recruitment criteria - no criminal record, no debt, no family history etc. Nothing.

Anyway, they responded a week later saying they cannot disclose the reasons and they "consider this the final correspondence". Oh and I am not eligible to reapply. Ever.

Things like that are beyond disheartening, kind of makes you wonder why you bother ._.

CS is nothing compared to CAPTOR... :)

Agreed.

While CS does the trick, it has the downside of taking out everyone within a few meters as well. Awful stuff.

I found Captor to work instantly although you have to hit the target almost spot on.

In ten years I have use CS twice and Captor twice including one when I managed to spray a Special Constable who was being attacked as well as his attacker. Sorry Burnsy. :p

Doesn't pava have to hit the eyes or near enough quite specifically, whereas cs can be targeted loosely on the body if necessary and still have an effect?

CAPTOR only effects the eyes. It apparently works on everyone, unlike CS. It also works on Dogs, unlike CS.

CS does have to be targetted at the face to have an effect as well, though it causes problems for the mucal membranes such as inside the nose and throat as well as irritating the eyes. CAPTOR does not irritate the nose or throat.

Having been exposed to both. I would much rather have CS sprayed at me - the recovery time is much quicker. If you get hit with CAPTOR you're going to be in no fit state to fight anyone for ages I can tell you.

The worst effect that I felt was in the inability to breath for a few seconds, it felt like I was being bear hugged. That was much more scary than the runny nose or eyes.

As Andy says.

One fella on my old patch was immune to CS and you may as well have sprayed water at him.

That along with the fact he was very violent often resulted in interesting arrests.

There are no such issues with PAVA as it works every time and really takes the fight out of someone in a matter of seconds.

I was interested in the police but when the recruitment lines opened for my area, it was impossible to get through and they said that they received about 2500 calls inside of an hour and had to close the lines early :(

Quite ridiculous to be fair, but I'm not surprised :p

Another big up to the police today - my bosses son was airlifted from the islands early this morning with internal bleeding and serious injuries after a fall, and had to undergo emergency surgery a few hours ago on the mainland.

My boss, though, is on a canal boat holiday in the middle of Wales! And her phone is out of signal. I've spoken to the canal boat company, and they have no way of tracking - although they did go and have a quick look, and couldn't find her.

After speaking to step-dad, (Avon & Somerset force), he suggested I give the local station a call. They were very helpful, took all details and will get a car to drive down to try and find her, as it's an emergency.

How bloody helpful. Top guys.
