The Police Application Thread

I'm thinking about applying again but 1st time I was rejected on my medical because I have pins in both hips which do NOT affect anything in my day-to-day, I am still a faster runner than the majority of my friends, so im sure if i have full mobility what should it matter???

got to the final interview for Durham back in 1994 when I was a young 20 something..lol unfortunately I was a citizen smith back then, power to the people and that. basically got told I only wanted to be an officer for a 3rd off my mortgage..hahahaha suppose the fact I was very naive about the royal family and that they were just another "family" in London which didn't affect us northern boys..lol and the fact I said I didn't give a toss about Fergie getting her toes sucked didn't go down too well.
On a more happy note, my brother is in the force based in gillingham and gets to play with GUNS..lol

Had a good experience with the police this weekend actually.

Me and a couple of mates were having a smoke outside and were making a bit of a racket and a stunning blonde police women came over and said "hmmm thats a familiar smell" laughed, told us to keep the noise down a bit and warned us about a few youths throwing bottles and starting fights on a nearby street. Other officers would have overreacted but she was spot on.

After working in IT since graduating (2004) I've been giving serious thought to joining the police. Unfortunately there is a recruitment freeze across Scotland. I expect Tayside might start recruiting again next year, so it gives me plenty of time to consider my application! Anyone else in the same boat?

I'm considering applying to be a special after hearing adverts on the Radio. I don't do much with my weekends and finish work at 4:30PM weekdays and have zero commitments that aren't flexable. I feel it could be an interesting and exciting oppurtunity.

If eventually at somepoint down the line becoming a regular paid constable came out of it i'd be fantastic to actually look foward to getting up and going to work.

It appears the Met aren't hiring any regular's unsuprising due to the job cuts but does has anybody succesfully become a special fairly recently?

Sounds good. Got an application form yet? The application process usually takes 4-6 months, plus 6 months of training.

Started filling it out at work today and will probaly finish it now :)

Wow along time then!

Would very much like to be a special for 5/6 months and then depending on if I love/hate it either find another career or make myself available for becoming a regular constable poviding the position is available.

Edit: Submitted

Don't expect any forces to be recruiting regulars for the next 2 years at least.

Rather annoying as it is definately a job I would love to do at some point in my life. Damn this economic climate.

Yup pritty annoying!

I know the leavers rate will probaly be dropping due to the climate. However would I be correct in saying that 'regulars' jobs will become available providing the person currently holding that position leaves for whatever reason? So potential jobs may become available but they aren't 'recruiting' to fill a void as such?

Obviously transfers and the likes would have priority etc.

No: the whole point is that numbers are decreasing. I can't see vacancies being filled for a couple of years yet, as Burnsy says. Natural wastage is a simple method to reduce numbers - and cheap.
