***The Pond Discussion Thread****

Just had to look that up: 'Toad Spawn'. Wow; I didn't know it was different from frogspawn! How lucky and cool to have toads, what excellent news. Would love pictures if you see any as adults around your pond later in the year/next year. :D;):):p

Please don't put fish in if you want a wildlife pond. They will destroy the wildlife food chain from the bottom up!

As long as there are plenty of shallow areas amongst plants etc, even with a few fish, wildlife such as frogs, newts and toads etc should be able to survive as these parts aren't accessible to the big fish however there would still be a high predation rate so maybe not as many surviving each year.
It's a personal thing, I'd probably still leave out the fish. If ducks settle then they would have their fill as well.

Planted this last week along with a couple of lilys and frogbit and water soldier.

My veggie filter is working and growing well. I will post some updated pics tomo as the pond has really taken off! :D

I now have frogs :D

I have a small barrel pond. Well, it is large barrel pond, but a small pond...

I have about 8 smooth newts living in it and a number of dragon fly lava and snails etc. I put nothing in other than plants; it is amazing what a small body of water can bring to the garden.

Wow, really pleased for you. Pics of the news when you can - awesome. :)

How often do you need to clean this?

Good work :)

I've been using two filters and pumps now .. the bioforce 9000 revolution doesn't clear the smaller particles (it uses foam cubes) so the old bioforce 4500 canister (dead UV transformer) on a separate circuit with the old 2500 pump polishes the water. The stink cabbage now has 40 cm leaves in the veggie filter along with the other nitrogen fixing plants.. so good thing you don't have koi :)
