The Radeon RX 5700 XT Owners Thread.

So I decided to re apply paste to my sapphire 5700xt Nitro+ SE I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste, always feel like I either apply too much paste or too little used the spreading technique

these are my settings [email protected] / 1850 memory ingame boost stays around 2064mhz

I used stress testing benchmarks to stress the card fully fans left on Auto
before
Idle 50c-52c
stressed 74c
Junction 94-100c
Fan 2100-2300rpm

After
Idle 47-50c
stressed 70c-71c
Junction 88-90c
Fan 1800-2000rpm

so its made some improvement and fans spin slower
thanks for providing this valuable information :)

Is anyone here with a 5700XT still having trouble with regular crashing and pc lock ups? I have the 'Powercolor Radeon RX 5700 XT Red Dragon 8GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card' for reference.

I've tried a multitude of drivers, software updates on all components (inc BIOS update), DDU reinstall/uninstall, windows system changes/tweaks etc, but am still getting consistent crashing when gaming in windows 10. It's very random and it will happen at any time and during any game, either with the screen freezing and system locking up or some form of error message. I can 'sometimes' go a gaming session without it happening, but on the flip side, it will happen very frequently.

The error messages that have showed relate to 'VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE', issues with the atikmpag.sys file or more recently, issues relating to Direct X errors. Most of which point towards issues with driver software. For the games that I have played over the past 6 months, this is what occurs in each of them:

  • CS:GO: Game minimises randomly then the application is unresponsive. Sometimes i will have to full restart the system or sometimes can ALT+F4 the application. If i can return to the application, it will often happen again straight away, blue screen when loading into a game or full system lock
  • Rocket League: game freezes and full system lock up
  • COD MW: Direct X Error - Dev Error 6068 relating to Direct X corruption
  • F1 2020: game freezes and full system lock up
  • Deep Rock Galatic: game freezes and full system lock up
  • World of Warships: Direct 3D error, game crash only

I've got to the point now, where i'm stuck it out and tried as much as i can, but come to the conclusion that maybe i just have a faulty GPU or the AMD drivers are just useless. This doesn't seem like a one off with a lot of other people reporting regular crashing and it's also recognised in the AMD driver updates as something that haven't fixed yet!

I've kicked off the process for an RMA request with OCUK yesterday, but didn't know if anyone had these issues previously and was able to find a fix?

@Saint Do you run your ram at XMP setting by any chance? If so trying upping the voltage on it to 1.365/1.37, strangely this is an obsure fix but it worked for my random crashes.

Thanks for this. Since the BIOS update i did last week, having just checked the BIOS, the RAM was running at 2133mhz (PC3600 ram), guess i needed to change this since the update! I've altered it to DOCP at the default settings (voltage 1.35v). I'll give this a go first and I'll up the voltage on an XMP profile if this doesn't work!

Ok, let us know.

Been a week of testing and unfortunately still getting some crashing.

I’m borrowing a friends nvidia 1060 for testing this week, so going to see if that causes any issues. If that doesn’t cause any crashes then I’ll RMA it. If it does still crash then I have some other system issue!

Update on this: have been using the 1060 for the last 4-5 days and not had any crashing at all in any game, so have RMA'ed the 5700 XT. See what the OCUK testers find out i guess

So, here's a question for us 5700XT's, lets just say, Big Navi is £599 and >= 3080... in raw fps (forget RIS, RT and all that)... who is upgraading?

I AM 100%
and will move my 5700XT into my second rig and move my 2x570's into my 3rd rig! Anyone else ?

Hi there Saint, I have had a very similar experiance to you. I bought a 5700xt red devil back in June and pretty much from the get go have had issues with games locking up probably every hour or so to say every 20 mins.

Games that I had the most issues with were:
COD:MW - Game would just exit abruptly
Division 2 - Game would freeze but not exit to desktop (Problem became worse when undervolting/overclocking)

I have tried DDU/driver updates, more power/lower clocks with no avail.

I installed windows to a second drive fresh and only installed the most recent driver Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.9.1 with a fresh install of division 2 and sucess so far. Even when I pushed the card to 2150Mhz with a 50% power limit at 1.2v still stable. Ran for 3+ hours between stock and overclock.

Thermals on my card are poor though even at stock speeds:
75C GPU temp
95C Junction
~2000rpm fan speed
Open case with 3 140mm fans on the front 1 on rear and 2 on top, ~20 ambient.

Hope that helps a little, if it start crashing Ill update.

You've got more rigs than a oil rigging company pug.
Hahaha, yeah but mine are all old school.... Rig1 the beasty is still only an X79 with a XEON 8 core overclocked in it... it's gone as far as that can go as it won't go above 4.8ghz on all cores but with M2 drives maxed out over PCI3.0 and 64GB ram, BUT imho, is still viable platform no problem with the newest cards as all core running 4,600mhz 24/7... can't see that much bottleneck there myself. The 2nd rig is a Intel® Core™ i7-3970X old school X79 core that cost a fortune at the time but picked up cheap with 64GB ram and 2x570 nitro 8GB AMD cards, .... and the 3rd is my little girls, that's a little more "normal" as that's a quad core, 32gb ram but with an older AMD 270 in it... it's oen fo them, you buy new, then unless I sell, which I normally don't they go down the pecking order... might need a 4th rig which could build just from spare parts now... insane how you collect over time lol

Have to admit, as much as I love all the ryzen malarky though, nothing other than a top notch threadripper 32 core would make me upgrade my mainboard and cpu's though tbh, still got life in them I reckon for the Big navi!!! ;-)

Hi

Did you ever figure out what was causing this as I'm seeing the same? I know others have said it's normal but I notice a performance decrease in games (mainly emulators) when it does go lower than 800mhz. In game mine clocks down as 150mhz which causes slight stutter. If I reboot and the GPU is at 800mhz it only goes that low in game and it plays smoothly.

I'm on the latest 20.8.3. I don't remember other drivers I've tried doing this.

Hi, with latest drivers, I just booted the PC from cold boot and it started at 800mhz will have to try it few more times to confirm its been fixed though

See AMD have ceased production of the 5700 series now :D
I hope the new cards release go smooth, the whole nvidia release fiasco caused a right havoc for gpu prices in the used market.

I'm sadly having to rma my Gigabyte 5700 xt OC. The thing recently has just started blowing like a jet engine under little stress, heating up like crazy, and whilst the fans are going crazy the RPM says it is at 0. My first AMD card, not given me much hope.

I don't know why but recently my sapphire 5700xt nitro + se temperature seems to be higher only thing different is new driver update

While gaming gets to 78-80c with junction 98-100c fans 2100-2400rpm

This is all at stock

At stock in-game is around 2050-2054mhz

So I decided to try the undervolt option in AMD I noticed the in game is still around 2050-2054mhz but at 1.152v temps are better and fans spin slower

I'm pretty surprised I was expecting the clock in-game to be lower

5700 xt nitro here
I noticed something of an oddity. I could OC GPU 21XXMhz but if I increased the memory from 1750 to 1800 I could play for a few minutes and ctd. if I back down from my OC so that's it's below 2100Mhz I could play longer. It's was most pronounced in Division 2 @ 1440p. Not so much in other games though.

Now I was using a 850watt PSU at the time. So I decided to go 1200watt just to see if things would change. If not, I could take it back.
Now I'm doing 2100Mhz at 1850Mhz memory in Division 2 with no problems now. Finally beat the game were is resets to fight against the Black Tuskins.
