The Radeon RX 6900/6950 XT Owners Thread.

@amigafan2003

I've used liquid metal on a gpu previously after masking the area around the die. I wouldn't want to try it in my current vertical GPU setup though.

If I do it then i'll use regular paste for peace of mind. I have a load of Gelid thermal pads somewhere too.

Well, as a chiller is basically phase change running through water................then it absolutely is extreme cooling
You are right, I've sent Kaap a mail to see if he will update the thread. Also the Timespy Extreme thread, the top two Nvidia GPUs in that are using Chillers also.

This means, AMD is fastest in Timespy Extreme now too with non Extreme cooling. :D

I think they are safe with Port Royal though, but no one cares much about that bench too much from the few number of entries. :)

Glad you messaged Kaap Matt. I don't think it was done deliberately, it's a long time since peeps have been using Phase, LN2, Dice or chillers regularly on this forum. I'm guessing they just didn't know there is a section for extreme cooling on it's own.
The giveaway of course is the average temp for the clock being run...............just not possible without extreme cooling.

Yeah of course, I had forgotten about it myself tbh until you mentioned it. :)

Not overly impressed so far. After i installed them and run 3dmark, it wanted to do an update straight away, which i did. Firestrike took a nosedive. I'm starting to think 3dmark has nobbled the AMD results...........only time will tell.
But if the new update from AMD affected the scores, how would they be responsible? Btw can you roll back on AMD?

The update from AMD could well have been responsible, i'm not shure yet. But in my case the nosedive was massive, nearly 4000 points in Firestrike. It could be the 3dmark update, or the driver update. I will defo go back to 21.7.2 to confirm.

I saw no difference between the two in Timespy, just 20 points difference. Sticking with 21.7.2 here for benching.

Do you guys recommend changing the stock paste for Kryonaut? Dont know how much of a difference it will make.
Depends.

If you are using an AIB card and have a 25c+ delta between edge and junction under heavy load, yes.

If you are going water cooling, yes.

If you are using an MBA card and are intending to continue using the stock cooler. No. I say again, NO! The stock thermal pad is king.

I will double check later but the last time I ran some benchmarks I think I had 25C or more between them. Checked with the manufacturer and they said it doesnt matter if I pierce the warranty sticker as long as I only change the paste.

Good old XFX. If the 25c delta is when you are drawing 400W, that's normal for air. So i would only consider doing it if the delta is 25c+ at 300W or thereabouts.

The XFX cooler is a pain to take apart as well, i tried it. So many screws and parts. :D
