The Radeon RX 7900 XT(X) Owners Thread.

So rumours are likely true that a XT model will not be released, and instead a 7800 and 7700 will come in due time.

7900 XTX
7900 XT
7900 (GRE)
7800
7700
7600

Probably cos the 7900xt was supposed to be a 7800xt but they didn't anticipate nvidia having something like a 4090 with that much horsepower.

I'm thinking of maybe getting a 7900XT. Which one would you go for out of the Sapphire Pulse and the AsRock Phantom Gaming? There's only a fiver difference between them.

I've always had Sapphire cards in the past, but I've also bought AsRock mobos which have been good. Would there be much of a difference in noise and or cooling?

I would get the Pulse.

If you've watercooled your card which water block did you go for and what are your gpu and hotspot temps?

using sapphire 7900xtx mba with the ek amd special edition mba waterblock

gpu boosted a bit high in game and crashed at the 12min mark, but temp wise pretty low

Depends if you want RGB?

One thing to bear in mind is the Pulse is significantly smaller than the Phantom so will fit into more cases.

In terms of performance I shouldn't think there would be much difference.

I was a little shocked to see how 'smol' the Pulse was, it's more 3090-level chonk rather than 4090/80. Performs well though, no complaints.
I just ordered a 7900 XT Pulse. Slightly nervous about power draw but optimistic about undervolting to the sub 300 watts mark. 4070 ti just didn't seem like a worthy investment.

could have got a 4070 Ti for the same price I payed for thè 7900 XT but i think the 7900 XT will continue to get better with fine wine driver improvements like we saw last gen and FSR 3 etc... while the 4070 Ti will always be hardware limited by its 192-bit memory Bus. Not to mention 7900XT supports DP 2.1 and overall just seems like you get more for your money.

Tried having a go at deshrouding the 7900 XTX Pulse this evening, did not go well! (I don't think the fans on the Pulse are awful, just a bit annoying under load, but my case (NR200) is set up nicely to have the GPU sitting atop two full size Noctua fans)

The Sapphire website pic made it look like a simple job (should emphasise here that I've never tried doing a deshroud before), but after taking out two screws attaching the shroud to the backplate and two screws attaching it to the IO panel, it did not want to come off. I think there are 4 more screws under the shroud attaching it directly to the heatsink, but they're impossible to get to (I have crap pics if anyone wants to see).

Sent an email to the TechPowerUp editor who did a teardown of the Pulse 7900 XT, which looks to be identical in terms of case/form, and actually got a nice reply but what he was saying didn't really map to what I was seeing on the GPU.

Share the pics. I've dismantled many 7900 XTXs and lots of Nitro+'s, but never a Pulse. However it should be relatively simple.

So my black screen at boot up when manual tuning in Wattman is selected reared it's ugly head again. Thought reinstalling the chipset drivers had fixed it but apparently not.

Anyway to cut a long story short turning of fast boot fixed it. I thought it was already disable because it's something I normally do but I guess I forgot to when I installed Windows 11. Either that or a feature update at some point enabled it again.

I grabbed the pics as stills from an HDR vid on my phone so the quality is godawful after messing with exposure etc. I've added some mildly psychopathic diagrams to help.

Link to video below too for better idea of where the inaccessible screws are on the card.

If I remember correctly, just the 4 screws around the GPU and four more for the backplate.

Just 8 screw holes

I guess you're encountering resistance from the thermal pads and GPU paste. Try twisting and lifting carefully.

The backplate can only be removed after removing the main cooler, so you can access the other screws.

I went for the Pulse, always had Sapphire in the past, so I might as well carry on the tradition.

Not fussed about RGB, I've got mesh side panels so you can't really see in much (Prime AP201).

Just make sure it’s not your psu. The CT/XTX is known to spike to more than 400w on load.

Yeah I did think that at first. My PSU is a 1000w EVGA which is fine but mine is now just out of warranty sat 11 years old so though maybe it needs changing but then thought to check fast boot as that cause issues with Wattman for me in the past hence me normally disabling it straight after a fresh Windows install. If it happens again in the future I'll look at changing the PSU but the black screen only happens at boot when drivers load and its rock solid every other time. Also only when manual tuning is enabled, even if settings are left at stock so I'm pretty sure it's software related.
