The Radeon RX 7900 XT(X) Owners Thread.

Dude pls do not make me laugh , it hurts. I took delivery from DPD Dave and spent next 30 mins on floor in agony so blame the 7900xtx. I am in serious trouble here and cant move out of chair now I am in it.

Christ we are all getting rather old for all this aren’t we…

@Jay-G25 As requested, MW2 results below Extreme and Competitive Settings using the MW2 build in benchmark at 4K. Extreme uses the standard Extreme quality preset, no other options changed. HUB used the Ultra preset which is one below Extreme for reference. Competitive Settings are using the lowest settings. These are settings below the low preset in game. If you would like to download and test true lowest settings using this preset, download the config file here and place it in your My Docs > COD > Players folder. Download here.

Testing prerequisites
I am running the latest build of Windows 11, with both the AMD and Nvidia drivers installed on my setup. They work perfectly in harmony too, . My system is clean and tuned for optimal performance with minimal background apps running, aside from MSI AB/HWINFO64 and Corsair iCUE (bit of a perf hog iCue but my AIO needs it).

The 4090 is running 527.56, ReBar is at auto setting. The 4090 was run at stock settings and has been repasted using liquid metal. It therefore runs cooler by 5c+ vs normal 4090 GameRocks, the core also moves up a bin due to the lower temperatures. I am using a special performance BIOS that unlocks the power limit up to 660W (stock is 550W) and allows more performance from the 4090 vs the stock BIOS shipped with the GPU. In light of this I will set the power limit to 80% of 550W = 450W to best mimic a true stock 4090. The 4090 was run with 100% fan speed for these tests.

For the 7900 XTX, I installed the 22.12.1 driver. SAM is at auto setting. The 7900 XTX is using the stock thermal paste. The 7900 XTX is limited to a maximum power limit of 335W, it is not possible to raise it further. So the only way to extract more performance is to increase the power limit to +15% which allows up to 335W, and to then lower voltage and finally increase memory frequency. This will net you best overall increase in performance in pure % terms. The 7900 XTX was run with 100% fan speed for these tests.

@vapor matt That's about as favourable as you will get for a 4090 in Modern Warfare 2, as my 4090 is tuned to run faster than any 4090 you'll see in a tech review.

Awesome result from the 7900XTX , punching well above it weight in this game .... no complaints from me the game clearly likes this new architecture :D

@LtMatt whats the max clock looking like will it do over 3ghz ? The other owners need to show their actual in the AMD driver panel.
Yes as usual no parliamentary procedure when it comes to posting the stock max frequency, I expected no less from folk tbh.

There's the front end clock and the shader clock. Typically most folks so far are only showing the Front End Clock in overlays. From my testing so far (need to do more to draw any conclusions) the front end is 2.9-3Ghz and the Shader clock is 3-3.2Ghz. This is what I've seen in Far Cry 6 with my optimal undervolt and overclock profile. 3Ghz is probably a bit too much for the MBA cards due to the 335 Power Limit. AIBs should have no such issue.

So this is the new indication two different clock outputs ? and I thought hotspot temp was confusing.

Thought so with it being MBA. MPT editing not a possibility then?

Yes, two different clock readings now, check out my new overlay which I'll be using on future AMD videos to YT.

Note, some of the values are blank as I've got the 4090 in my system at this moment in time. :D

MPT is a thing of the past with Navi31 mate. :)

Got my Saphire XTX today. Haven't been able to get it into Windows.

Went into the bios once so it's not dead.

Asus X570 Tuf Gaming Plus is putting the VGA diagnostic LED on :(

Try disabling CSM mode in the BIOS.

Would this GPU be ok with a Ryzen 7 3700X + MSI X570-A Pro ? Or is there no point as it'll be bottlenecked?
At 4K it won't be too bad, but below that you'll be CPU limited.

Very pleased with the install, required some alignments to get the screws to go in but once installed I no longer need to use my sag bracket as it's a sturdy mounting with barely any sag. Took about 20mins to swap out my old 5700xt (the new gpu is the same thickness but smaller in length, wow)

Everybody is probably going to scream at me for willingly not goinfg for an XTX but I have received and successfully installed my Sapphire 7900 XT (reference design) today.

I was really worried about the noise and potential coil whine but so far nothing bad to report :)

I'm not planning to go for any crazy overlocking or anything, just going to try a gentle undervolt and see where it takes me.
