The Radeon VII Owners Thread

What happened with your Vega 64? Which model was it?
My Sapphire V64 was solid, did very well with the Ek block on it!

I had the Ref model but when i went to a 1440p monitor it was just too loud, so i bought the Asus only because a friend of mine had issues with his Sapphire. The strix throttled like crazy and had VRM hotspots of 106c. Im currently using my sons Rx470 which is surprisingly adequate :D

Sounds like you have one of the strix cards that has the known vrm heat issue. You've done the right thing with the RMA. My brother has one but only recently when the prices dropped so the issue has been resolved.
I picked a RX 570 up for my sons rig. They are the best value card cost per frame currently. The 470 is very close too.

I honestly thought i had one of the later cards with the issue fixed, but evidently not. The 470 really has blown me away. ive even been using it to play VR poker. I have to lower the settings to minimum but still im very impressed.

In a nut shell:
Driver 19.3.1 is massively better than release drivers. (still work to do as per Vega)
Software programs have been updated GPU-z ect...
The cold plate on the stock coolers doesn't seem to be very flat lol. (talk of lapping, and screw tightening to help)
Alphacool and EKWB blocks have been teased on social media, and i'm in the queue lol. (They need to be listed for sale asap)

Cheers. Any issues with temps/noise etc? Edit: outside the norm, that is.

The fan profile out of the box hits 2900rpm @ 75c. The fans are only 75mm so at 2900rpm they will be heard over anything else in a case. Around 3900rpm full speed is very loud! The cards all come out of the box using a range of stock voltage for there 1800mhz peak clock. 1030-1130mv with what I've read. My card is 1074mv and doesn't have an issue @ 973mv. I've not even tried below that on air as my cards in the cupboard now ready for a block fitting. It seems to be most cards will undervolt 100mv so less power consumption, leading to lower temps and lower fan speeds.

Sounds like you'd be happy with a VII. You'll have to let the forum know how many packets of haribo you receive if you end up getting one.

Waited til this morning for some better light. Even though its blowing a gale and lashing it down this morning in Cornwall.

So just the pipe from the bottom of the 120mm rear rad to go into the rear of the VII block (left port), then VII block (right port) out to top rear 360mm rad. I mock fitted the card in the build so even the twin 8pins are fitted and ready!
That is beautiful !
Where in Cornwall roughly are you? I lived there for 20 years, miss it

Last night I tried removing the rear bracket and retightening it more evenly as I'd read a few suggesting that helped almost as much as the "washer mod" but it made zero difference for me.

Running Fire Strike Ultra mine hits a peak of 63*C and 95*C junction temp, both before and after running at stock with almost identical results.

Might consider lapping the cooler at the weekend to see if that improves the junction temps as they easily hit 110*C during gaming which limits OC headroom.

I think everyone has missed a trick with this "screw gate" subject.
I'm going to do some pics for explanation, I'll have a post up asap.

Interested to see your theory. :)
Well i'm glad I took a closer look at my card this morning! Sounds like you are expected to check products with a fine tooth comb within 48 hours of getting them after the RMA call!? Which to pick up on this would have been missed unless your where looking for it!

Normal plate fitted as you would expect. 3 out of 4 corners on my card!!!!!

Corner 4, bottom left. Friday afternoon card. About 2mm from bottoming out, and the screw won't move.
The worst thing is, I've had the card over 30 days so its a warranty repair! (section 75 if I have any issues!)

What i was looking at where the rest of the screws around the die area of the card. After referring to the GN video of the tear down the 4 screws are the only thing at generates the tension between the coldplate and die.
I'd urge people to check there cards after what I've seen with mine this morning!

Can't say I noticed this when I removed and refitted mine, I was amazed how much tension there was in that back bracket though! Getting the initial few turns in on each screw is a faff!

The last time I touched a GPU was a 7950 to fit an aftermarket cooler and it was nothing like that.
