The rise of AMD

Sigh, just looked under my desk before I went to power down for the evening and I see this:

So this is the exact issue being logged on the MSI forums, which seems to affect all of the 870 Godlike EZ-Bridges. I guess I'm installing MSI Center and running the update in the hope that it doesn't brick it.

Will do, I've just been running it to see if the above (obviously inevitable) issue would occur.
I updated teh firmaware on mine and installed the MSI centre, everything worked great for 10 days then the screen would not power on, next day teh board stopped powering on also. These things just should not happenon a board of this price, a one off can always happen buit this seems very widespread

Slightly derailing; but I have seen people have some success resolving this (if you haven't RMAed it) using the newest firmware and hotswapping the EZ-Bridge back onto the motherboard.
Check the related thread about the Dynamic Dashboard III on the MSI forums.

Update:
Had to order a few more bits and pieces, which should arrive before the weekend. New Firmware on the motherboard is looking promising, but we'll see.
Replacement acrylic from Singularity Computers is enroute and is due Friday.
But then we're only 13 or so days from 5090 release day.
So while I will be working on my cabling (as soon as my heatshrink arrives, because I'm an idiot and forgot to include it in my order) I will put some updates on with some pictures of the cabling as it goes in. Probably piece by piece.

Hopefully we're not too far off draining and re-assembly with a 5090, which is exciting.

Since I knew I would need an aRGB Controller I went ahead and ordered a Razer Chroma aRBG Controller, since it fit my requirements the best. Will post pictures once it arrives.

While I was hopeful that the firmware update would resolve the issue, it has not and I'm back to square 1 with the EZ-Bridge.

Now it's a question of do I RMA the board, and wait for the ASUS Crosshair x870 Extreme or go with a different board? Or wait out the issue with the bridge?

Ah memorys of the good old days of having to do this yourself. :)
I will never not do it myself ;) my cable runs always have a quirk to them after working out the routing which creates sizable variation in wire lengths in a single cable. Plus I prefer paracord to PET and seemingly the few cable makers who do offer paracord don't do it properly (550 is too big, people! No wonder you complain it looks like shoelaces).

But still, always gotta appreciate a super tidy heatshrinkless sleeve job, lovely stuff.

Honestly; this is one of the massive advantages of the powerboard; it makes the cable runs really simple and predictable from the powerboard to the motherboard.

I realised I'd used some old sleeving to do the black; which wasn't quite a thick as the new one. So I redid those 2 wires and finished off the outside of the curve.

I so wish i could do my own cables. Eyeballs are good enough for it but is sure so eadmire your cabling skills sir. I see you also got teh screen working again, did you flash firmware and data?

What’s the plan then?
Is it just the link that doesn’t work and the board it’s itself operates as it should?
For me my dynamic daqshboard stopped working first making the usb cinnecting disconnecting sound day later the entire board stopped working. I seem to be an outlier with regards to whole board not working. Mine has gone back

Ok, so. The dynamic dashboard is part of a removeable section of the motherboard; the EZ-Bridge.

This has a few headers on it and a proprietary connection to the motherboard. Unfortunately one of these is the front panel IO connections.
Once the board goes dead, nothing connected to it works (hence the USB connection / disconnection) and also the power switch (joys).

Generally this is pretty reliably around every 5-7 days. I have fortunately been able to re-flash the EZ-Bridge with the firmware tool MSI provided which brings it back to life for another 5-7 days, but if there isn't a permanent fix for this soon. It will be going back under RMA.
So I am still able to boot using the power recovery settings or wake on LAN, both of which I have enabled in the BIOS, obviously this is super annoying when I have to revert to this!
I haven't seen anyone where the full board was unusable (other than that they were unable to power it on).

However I'm fairly averse to completely dismantling the build before I have to do it again to install a new GPU in 10 days or so. There also isn't a motherboard yet available that I would be willing to replace it with.
The alternatives are:
Gigabyte X870E AORUS XTREME AI TOP
Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X870E HERO
Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X870E APEX
Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X870E EXTREME

I'm not that keen on the Gigabyte board, the Hero and Apex aren't E_ATX which I'd rather for this build.
So that probably means I'm stuck waiting for the Extreme, which was leaked at CES, but isn't even on the Asus site yet; let alone anyone being given a release date.

Based on the early days of AM5 i wouldn't touch Asus, but im sure thats all sorted now.
