He's actually had more Nvidia cards than AMD card I think over the time and he's a hardware tinkerer and goes for benchmark leader boards. Some benchmarks prefer AMD and some Nvidia so only way to stay on many leader boards is to really have both.

He did not used to be that way until relatively recentl. Would never have bought an Nvidia card. So what’s changed? :D

I wonder if it is Dunovo causing the issue?

Possibly that but main thing is good old unreal engine shader stutter so when any new objects/areas are loaded on screen for the first time, it compiles this at that moment thus stutter, makes sense why they recommend at least ssd now. Obviously the main way to fix this is to have shader compile happen before you load the game but ideally we really need to get direct storage being adopted for pc games now as console games are all using this now which is why they don't see these kind of issues.

Speaking of shader stutter, gotham knights was recently fixed in this regard and improvements all round too:

Also, posting this here from mrks posts too

- No DLSS option, only FSR 2, you can enable it but it makes zero difference to performance. It's clearly locked out. I'm sur ein other game syou could use it on Nvidia cards and gain some frames, even if not as much as DLSS.

So seems amd have resorted to now not just locking out dlss in their sponsored games but also disabling fsr for nvidia gpus? :D

In all seriousness though, think this is just a bug as would be pretty hypocritical of amd to do this but then again, they aren't our friends....

Not played the game yet so can't comment on if it's any good or not but here's some early performance data.

2160P Ultra Settings DX12 Ray Tracing

2160P Ultra Settings DX12 Ray Tracing + FSR Quality (no Ultra Quality mode as of yet)

2160P Ultra Settings DX12 Ray Tracing Off

2160P Ultra Settings DX11 Ray Tracing Off

The Callisto Protocol Campaign Part 1 | 7950X + 4090 GameRock | 2160P Ultra Settings

That will convert to 4K quality eventually.

Plenty of stutter from what I've seen (no the gif is not buffering, that's stutter). Looks like an absolute dumpster fire on PC at launch. Which is fine by me, ultimately I have no problem passing on games that perform like **** and keeping my money. Will probably see it on gamepass within a year.

That's pathetic. Getting sick of seeing this **** in big PC releases.

I'm not sure why, but my experience is nothing like that above. I definitely see some of the infamous UE4 stutter, but it's so minor that it does not really spoil the immersion for me.

Wondering if it gets worse the longer you play, as the first 15 minutes have been fine for me other than the odd spikes here and there.

@LtMatt You're forgetting some very important context: Your PC is a rocketship which is many times more powerful than even mid-range PCs. Same issue as Steelrising had (which is the real sad part for me, because I looked forward to that game), you can get a sort of 'okay' experience if you brute force it with the highest-end hardware, but it completely falls apart as soon as you step even a little bit down. The stutters are unavoidable though, just an issue with unreal engine & how devs use it, the severity can be lessened but they can never be eliminated except through a game re-write (yeah right).

Yeah, just glad I don't have it too bad as I'm enjoying the game at the moment.

I'm sure it won't be the last UE4 game with this issue either.

I am still wondering if you are working at AMD anymore? Did something happen? Have they ****** you off so much for you to using an Nvidia card so proudly now? You have had just as many Nvidia cards as me the last year or so. Or is it under the guise of “I am testing them” and will sell it onxe the 7900 XTXXX comes out? :p

The old Matt would never have stuck a dirty Nvidia card in his system :D
