That's quite bad, it's not abnormal to see games use more vram on amd cards, but I have surprised to see that 16gb vram isn't enough on the amd cards, that's several gb more than the cutoff on Nvidia

Quite a few sites have always noted how amd use more vram than nvidia but no one has really done a proper look into it and it's not always clear cut as iirc, for f1 22, nvidia use more vram than amd but it does seem to be a bit of a common theme now, there could be 2 ways to look at it:

- nvidia cheating by lowering IQ in ways we can't see, although if "cheating", maybe that is the wrong word to use as it isn't noticeable to be pointed/called out, therefore more "optimisation" and being efficient with their methods
- amd poor optimisation when it comes to vram usage especially if they rely on SAM/rebar to overcome any potential vram management issues

But still, given this is 100% technical sponsorship and even done by nvidias own studio and using their tools, it is never going to put amd in a good light, obviously they won't come anywhere close to nvidia but they are defo capable of getting more than 1 fps, they should be performing about where turing is in this.

I wonder if the vram heavy usage/issues is down to the way the textures have been updated/replaced as well i.e. iirc, remix does this for you so I can't imagine optimisation in terms of loading in and dumping assets/textures when no longer needed etc. is done too well.....

Lets just put the Vram down to it being an RTX showcase. When have you ever seen a 6900xt run out of Vram. Also when looking at Vram usage in most tiers AMD cards have more Vram so will use more due to having more which is usually been the case over the years.

I am sure nVidia know the game will drop off in interest after a day or two anyway, it's just a show case for RTX 4090 so they can shift more, instead of a real tech demo they just do this now, same with Quake RTX.

No doubt it is a showcase for ada, FG/dlss 3 but it is also a showcase for where gaming is going, this is why amd need to start taking it seriously as they have been playing catchup on raster, dx 11, upscaling for so long and going forward it is looking like they will be playing catchup on RT for another decade but remember, it's ok, can just turn off RT.... :p

Oooooft when it's factually correct that the 12Gb 3060 has three times the performance of a 10gb 3080 in an RTX title.:p

Yup madness isn't it, oh wait...

Very strange, The consoles got RT shadows and now RT reflections, I bet Rockstar will want to bring out a "Definitive Edition" on PC for £40 that includes these 2 features instead of doing a simple patch.

Exactly what I am thinking tbh

Surprised this wasn't a new paid for "next gen" version on consoles tbh

Should have smashed your 3090 with that hammer grim and done the smart thing like @TNA did and got yourself a 3080ti, could have saved some money to put towards your 4090 and make the initial sting less painful (and I'm not referring to your wallet..... ;))

He also keeps banging on about the 2080 Ti being the much better card over the 3070 too, but I keep seeing the 3070 coming out on top

I am well happy with my 3080 Ti, plays absolutely every game I own without an issue at max settings. I can’t see me having any issues until Jensen says Ampere friends it is now safe to upgrade in a couple of years time.

Every game coming out in 2023 that I am interested in playing this card will play just fine and at worst I will need to drop from ultra to high setting if Unreal Engine 5 games come out which is not end of the world as there is usually little difference anyway, one needs stills to see the difference a lot of the time

This "upgrade/Mod" is a proprietary technology, paid for and developed as such, so why is it such a big deal? OK, so we are in a duopoly situation, so therefore it is just bullpoop and a marketing exercise.

I'm elderly enough to remember PowerVR doing the same thing 20 odd years ago (Again, I'm elderly so can't remember the actual game); but they weren't trying to double the price of graphics cards and taking the absolute ****.

It's a trusim on these forums but I get the impression that the majority of posters hope AMD "get gud" so it'll make their Nvidia cards cheaper. It's really quite odd.

Hl 2 will eventually come, hl 1 with RT is currently in the works

Oh nice, did not know that. I was playing Black Mesa when I sold my 3080 and did not have a gpu until I got a 3070 so was gaming on my gaming laptop which has a 2060 in it. The laptop has a 1080p IPS display and the 2060 seems to have the same performance as a desktop 1070 which is still decent at 1080p if you are not playing the latest games. Anyway, never did get to complete it, so would not mind starting it again but with RT :D
