I think that the initial assessment of the mode I made based on the first comparison shot still holds up well (https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...ks-software-etc-thread.18898329/post-35859032). Overall I think what's interesting about it is how looking at it in the new screenshots I realised so much of it seemed merely as a different look rather than it necessarily resolving obvious problems (unlike having RT at all vs screen space solutions). My mind immediately went into what does this mean for console HW choices, because it will dictate the AAA market, and I think what it will mean is that the focus will be, even for next-gen, to get the minimum viable RT possible (so f.ex. in CP it would be all RT effects on but lighting medium) but pathtracing will not be in the picture. Still a nice addition, don't get me wrong, just not anywhere near a must have. It's mostly going to be a fun option for PC enthusiasts to benchmark with and that's about it. Imo it's hard to say what will be better for actual gameplay (at least until the 6090 etc allows both) - overdrive vs native 4K TAA, because both DLSS & FSR still have various edge aliasing issues which are more pronounced than TAA, so it's not clear what's better - a juiced up RT or the overall IQ of better AA. Even a 4090 will only really allow you to choose one option.

Basically play 4k raster or 1080p with tracer...
No, you can also play 4K RT (4090 can do >50 fps; FG can also add more). Just not PT. In fact if you do tests of raster VS RT you will find that there is actually proportionally little difference for a 4090 due to just how heavy it is with the RT cores (all RT, lighting = medium).

Does the original RT really look that bad? I've seen way better reflections from ENB mods that don't come with the insane performance hit.

RT continues being a meme.

RT looks terrible in everything, Not even 1 example of RT looking good, It looks like an orangutan turded in his hand and then used it as a paint brush on expensive canvas !

Peak graphics was the original Tetris... we've only gone backwards since then.... oh and anti-aliasing, Tessellation, Ambient occlusion, Global illumination etc... are all a con and look bad too.

I'm noticing a direct correlation between dislike of RT and people who own AMD cards or NVIDIA cards that can't handle it. Funny that, it's easy not to care about something when you have no choice in the matter (other than spending an extortionate amount on a GPU).

I do appreciate RT in Diablo 2 resurrected even though I own a RX 6600. On the other hand, I don't have any other games with RT, so basing my opinion on a single instance is not exactly what I would call well informed.
What I do find ridicolous is how Nvidia is working hard on making its own cards obsolescent even before announcing the next and resorting to software tricks to insist they can push features before the hardware is mature for it.
That said, I'm an old gamer so I do have my quirks like insisting that the industry made the wrong choice in the 1990s by pushing polygons over voxels but I know I'm a very niche voice by now.

155GB required to install... Games are really getting huge not just on VRAM use but storage.

It's totally possible for raster FX to have better light simulation than an actual light simulation.... Trust me bro ! /s
