Worst damage was when amd decided to give up on PC and let Nvidia get in rampant on pricing
Precisely. Nvidia owners immediately bought into Jensen's nonsense regarding RT and did relentless free advertising of overpriced Nvidia products because of the so called RT performance advantage.

They basically gaslit AMD and their customer base into a "let's put our efforts elsewhere" single digit market share.

You think it's bad now, just wait to see what the future holds, it is going to be amd playing catchup all over again just like what happened with raster and dx 11 ;)

The future of full path tracing for the mainstream is still a decade away and I doubt dgpus will still be a thing by that time. At least they will definitely be on their way out.

Accept it wasn't nonsense. The only nonsense is your talk about RT being useless and 2013 games looking better. You can pretend all you like but its not going to change anything. RT is so good its here to stay. The future is RT and its use is only going to increase till the point we get more and more full RT games that don't work without RT.

Yes the distant future is RT but it won't stop people making fun of you for caring about things that barely look any better at a huge performance cost while shilling vastly overpriced Nvidia RT "capable" GPUs.

Nvidia tried to push RT Gpus to justify price increases waaaaaay too early and the sheep as usual bought it up. Similar situation with meta which is getting savagely memed on. At least people there had the sense to notice how premature it was but then again Nvidia has an unapparelled way of convincing the masses over useless crap.

Just coming across as trolling now but I'll bite....

Too early? With Turing, I agree.

Can't speak for others but I've been thoroughly enjoying ray tracing in 90% of the games I've played over the past 2 years.

Overpriced too? Paid £650 here for a 3080, the extra £50 over the amd competing GPU i.e. 6800xt for a superior upscaler (and the only upscaling tech for a long time too....) and ray tracing was well worth it alone, in fact, if I wanted a 6800xt, I would have had to pay £1+k given amds lack of UK store selling for MSRP.

You played Control ? RT on and off for reflections makes a fair bit of difference to the atmosphere considering how much of the scenery has glass and metal.

You seem to be stuck in the past. This isn't 5+ years ago and RT makes a massive difference to looks. If you think RT barely looks any better then the problem is with you, not Ray Tracing. If you want to argue Turing was too early for RT then sure I could agree to that. But not on modern GPU's they are ready for RT and RT makes a major difference. RT is not for the distance future its ready and worthwhile now. It you don't see the difference well that's your problem, the rest of us can see the difference and are enjoying the benefits or RT. As for the performance hit I don't mind that for the stunning improvement to graphics. The games are still playing smooth which is all that matters to me.

Hell it’s even on the steam deck now

RT is great, however it won't be truly impactful until you can do it at 1080p/60/native with a mainstream GPU.

There is some RT games that already achieve this no problem. It's just not all games, I can give examples from reviews 2 years ago

I'm using the RTX3060 because according to steam it's the most common and popular GPU in the world.

Control: the 3060 can do 1080p 60fps with RT on

Shadow of tomb raider: again, yea it can do 1080p 60fps with RT on

Watch dogs Legion: you guessed it, 1080p 60fps

My 3060ti plays hogwarts with RT ultra no problem in 3440x1440p with DLSS Q. Just dropped textures to high

For Control it doesn't and probably can't make up the difference from around 43 to 60fps through drivers alone. My 2080 can't hold 60fps native in that game, but is fine with DLSS Quality. Most cards can do decent enough at lower resolutions with DLSS, is not that much of a problem. AMD struggles more since its upscaling solution is as good.

Can't wait to get 15 fps with dlss performance on my 3080

50xx is definitely going to be the one to get for path tracing goodness and dlss 4 ;)
