Damn think Nvidia and AMD should recruit few from here for marketing
This thread is basically the same maybe 8 people responding to each other. Maybe 5/6 of them metaphorically pleasuring themselves over RT/PT/DLSS, and the other couple saying its a complete waste of time. Then endless videos that all basically look the same unless you watch them in 4k at 300% zoom.

I'm guessing you run a radeon.

I ran an Nvidia rarely play any games that use RT maybe because most are online?

Also I can't praise it's the second coming maybe because they are pricing me out to get decent level of it ? I need to spend £1k+ ? Not worth the premium imo

Wake me up when they can offer decent level of it in £600-£700 and maybe I'll praise them

I am glad i run a Radeon as i can't imagine how long a game would take me to complete if it had RT reflections. Stopping at every puddle or mirror to admire the reflections while setting up my altar to pray to Jen would get boring after 3 years.

Crazy to me how much walk through some have done of the same game , each to their own though I couldn't

If say it was some online game and looked amazing I'd probably think different until then I couldn't really care much for it for the premium needed

Yea i am the same, once i complete a game and have seen everything i rarely go back unless many years later with an overhaul. If i was to try Cyberpunk again i wouldn't go to a website for a guide i would come here as no way anyone has played more Cyberpunk than most in this thread.

It could be 80's burn out going on with me though. Games in the 80's you seen the same level loads of times as they were designed to kill you at every turn. So these days i couldn't face doing the same thing over and over unless it's competitive online.

Same once I complete thats me done another play just becomes repetitive, main for me is online for the replayability and with others, the last few single player I enjoyed were the last of us, red dead 2 & uncharted 4

gone off thread will go back to lurking now

Well they reckon to 100% Starfield could be 300 hours. In comparison Cyberpunk is just over 100. So you better get stuck in and forget those puddles and Altars.

Not in a rush to do a 100% run. I think 80 or so hours for a first satisfying playthrough is fine. That does exploration, all major side quests and main quest.

I am in no rush for ship and base building.

Good thing with geforce now ultimate is it gives amd fans a chance to experience quality ray tracing gaming experience now for cheap :p

Well for my gaming tastes, the absolute number 1 thing I need is an immersive world and cp 2077 is one of the very few games that achieves this well especially in that futuristic blade runner/fifth element world setting. I'm loving starfield but cp 2077 just ***** all over it from a technical pov as well as a story driven game, hard to describe but it just flows better and feels more coherent and the world in cp 2077 is way more impressive, doesn't help when starfield visuals are pretty awful at times though. Oh and don't get me started on all the loading screens in starfield :o People say there is more replay value in starfield and well I don't see it other than your decisions influencing the story and even then it's not exactly going to be hugely different. So far the main story is basically, go here, grab this, bring back to base, go here, grab this, bring back to base, rinse and repeat and about 15 times.

I've got 160 + hours in cp 2077 now and the 2.0 update has changed the game quite significantly especially surrounding the RPG element which wasn't really worth it before, there's so many nice little touches to improve the immersiveness now too i.e. just hearing the tire noise of when cars are driving on wet roads, little things like that just make you more immersed.

@Nexus18 I didn't forget the question was if your 3080 went bust. You would get a value replacement more than capable and all the "eye candy" on geforce ultimate.

The de-evolution of @Nexus18 over the last few years ..... DLSS Quality -> DLSS balanced -> DLSS performance mode -> geforce now

Seems like you are picking what you want to hear/read for narrative purposes as per usual  You asked what if my 3080 went bust, I stated, I wouldn't buy anything other than a 4090 because no other gpu is worth their asking price, at least with a 4090, it is basically a gen ahead of everything else. You stated a 7800xt would be a value replacement and as shown with evidence, it simply isn't, it's a downgrade in basically every way.

Again, I'll try to keep it to one line so you don't get lost: geforce now ultimate is only required for the extreme path tracing titles, of which I am playing right now, is one game. If there was say 5+ games out right now then I would have no problem buying a 4090.

Go watch videos on upscaling etc. again to educate yourself, as it is right now, lower presets of DLSS provide better IQ than the best FSR quality preset especially in motion (which is what matters the most) this was shown beautifully in starfield with the dlss mod vs fsr and show me a gpu that doesn't need upscaling to drive 4k60 max settings or/and max settings at 3440x1440 to be getting 130+ fps.... Again, more than happy for you to provide some evidence to show otherwise that goes against various sources own testing now. I'll wait.

Maybe try geforce now ultimate yourself? It's only £18, surely you can afford that? Would be a nice upgrade from your vega 64.

Puddles and wet road tire noise ohh the bliss      . In all seriousness as long as you are having fun that's all that matters.

Well it might seem silly but its the little touches like that which just add even more immersion to the game. It's not actually something I noticed was lacking until it started raining there then went "oh that's new!"

Back on topic:

The feeling I get is some of these guys would not be cought dead doing such a thing. Then you have others who will, but won't admit to it here :p

I don't see the problem myself. Pricing is decent. Does not hurt trying for a month if you fancy.

For me personally there is nothing out there that makes me want to try it. But that may change next year.

I mean we have people moaning about people discussing some of the most amazing technology just released for RTX cards in the RT thread, that is getting massive coverage and acclaim in the media. What possible reason would there be for them to do that? it's a mystery. Now can we get back on topic.

As for Path tracing being for those with the deepest pockets, here I present a lowly 4060 doing 50 FPS+.

Geforce now might be the play for me , someone not into single player (mostly online) but if something single player did release and really interested me was at level of cyber punk ( current card just tanked and not getting the best experience) would get 1 month just to complete the game

Its not a downgrade if your 3080 was bust.....or did you forget that part? put yourself in the position of someone with £500-£600 budget and no GPU and make a decision? This off-topic started with your "this is why you don't upgrade from ampere to RDNA3" post while also championing a geforce subscription to run it on your 3080......

I agree though buying expensive hardware just for RT/PT just isn't worth it most people.

Not enough games do a good job and if anything the comparison videos of Raster/RT/PT/RR over the last few days has highlighted that at the moment everything has a compromise of some sort. As we move forward this will change and RT/PT/RR and other AI techniques will improve but that takes time and many games are already in development.

Best to wait for the developers and hardware to catch up before throwing money around for a handful of games. Or if you have money to burn get the 4090, no issues with that.

I never mentioned comparisons with FSR so what evidence would I need to produce? or are you trying to convince yourself of something?
I played Starfield for 20 minutes and found the constant loading/transition between inside and outside very annoying.

I don't need geforce ultimate , I can adjust the settings to suit like most people do.
I don't have a vega 64, sold it years ago. As usual though blinded by the info in the sig ;)

Anyway focus on the tech and future improvements.
