Yeah it’s 4k.
I played maybe for about 20 minutes and gave up.
Yes it looks pretty but it’s just too laggy for me to enjoy.
At 4k path tracing is not usable on a 4090 beven with upscaling balanced and frame gen, it's passable at DLSS performance but the image quality is reduced a bit.... As powerful as the 4090 is, unless you're playing with a controller then the increased mouse latency at 4k is just not a nice experience when path tracing I suspect a 5080 or 90 will be the 4k path tracing targets for high framerate low latency rendering. My res will always be 3440x1440 so all good for the future really.
Some don't notice or care about input latency bizarrely but they're like left handed people and gingers
It's worth pointing out that your mouse also makes a massive difference in smoothness of motion panning and mouse latency in conjunction with oath tracing too. I use two nice on my desk at once, one for productivity (MX Master 3, 125Hz fixed so can't change that), and one for gaming (XM2we 1000Hz). How reactive the screen motion feels and how smooth it is can be very obvious using both side by side. So for th absolute best gaming experience also make sure you have a 1000Hz mouse, especially since Microsoft has now fixed the high Hz mouse stuttering that used to cause problems in Windows 11.

Side bar note, I've been using ray tracing in games since I had the 2070 Super, and RT became a thing, obviously back then I had to reduce other settings massively or not use it at all on order to maintain 60fps, at the time this was fine but as I really appreciate modern advanced in tech, I always want to make use of itbat whatever cost. I don't think I've ever once done played ray tracing, always saw the positive in the tech and looked forward to the day when I could run it properly. Just like how I'm now looking forward to using AMD frame gen in games they sponsor from now on having seen how good it is on my Nvidia card of choice in. Give us options for the best experience and all's good.
That RT experience improved with the 3080 Ti FE and I was able to ray trace with all settings on ultra in cyberpunk for once but use DLSS balanced or performance and not use RT-L Psycho or SSR Psycho, again to get 60fps as a target. Obviously using those DLSS modes in that time did result in more shimmering or less sharp textures, compromises had to be made to get to use new tech.
Now with the 4090 I don't even need to use frame gen to get 80fps baseline and that's with path tracing, or a minimum of 100fps with frame gen on at 3440x1440 and DLSS Quality.
I'm not bothered about 4k gaming with path tracing having tried 5160x2160 in Cyberpunk and seeing little quality difference Vs my native res, so much appreciate the instant mouse latency of native res instead so I'd say for this round of settings now, I'm at a really enjoyable level of software and hardware working together for the best gaming experience and can't wait to play oath traced and ray reconstructed Alan Wake 2 this month.
